    Job Summary

    The Faculty Ombuds provides consultation services for faculty members, graduate students, researchers, and others regarding CU Boulder related matters. They help constituents whose concerns involve interpersonal and/or system-related conflicts to clarify their concerns and evaluate various options for managing or resolving them. The Faculty Ombuds provides conflict coaching, mediation, group facilitation, and referral services. They also consult with appropriate campus administrative offices to obtain information about University policies and procedures. They may provide educational workshops on conflict-related topics. The Faculty Ombuds identifies and reports annually on concerns and problems involving university policies, procedures, and practices, and recommends modifying and/or developing them as appropriate. They do not provide legal advice, advocate for individuals, or accept formal notice about problems on behalf of the University. They have no administrative or decision-making authority at the university, and follow the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the International Ombuds Association.

    Who We Are

     

    The OMBUDS office serves as a good place to surface, voice, discuss and clarify university-related concerns. We listen without judgment, help people untangle issues, develop options and strategize. We provide an impartial perspective and maintain what is shared with us in strictest confidence. Visitors to our office choose their path of resolution.

    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    + Provides consultation and informal coaching to assist in the resolution of conflicts, complaints, and disputes involving CU Boulder faculty members, graduate students, researchers, and other community members as needed

    + Provides mediation assistance in helping to resolve interpersonal disputes involving one or more CU Boulder faculty members, graduate students, researchers, and other community members as needed

    + Provides information about campus policies and procedures

    + Assists faculty, researchers, and graduate students in resolving concerns related to campus policies and procedures and conflicts or disputes with other members of the campus community

    + Refers people to appropriate campus resources

    + Under the direction of the Director of the Ombuds Office, consults with appropriate administrators on the effect of proposed policies and procedures and recommends changes

    + Maintains confidentiality and impartiality in all case interactions

    + Maintains aggregate data regarding cases in the Salesforce Ombuds Case Management System

    + Meets weekly with the Ombuds Office Team to discuss case activities

    + Follows the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the International Ombuds Association

     

    What You Should Know

     

    The Faculty Ombuds position is a 9 month, 30 percent FTE, hybrid compensated appointment with a possibility of summer hours.
