    Job Summary

    The Liu Lab in the Gilbert S. Omenn Department of Computational Medicine & Bioinformatics is looking for a Research Lab Specialist Senior for NIH projects which involves multiple universities/sites. The Research Lab Specialist Senior is expected to help the PI oversee the entire project, organizing working groups, scientific meetings, preparing monthly and quarterly reports, data management and informatics, communication, and teamwork.

    Responsibilities*

    Responsible for the day to day operations of a specialized laboratory within a department or research program.

     

    + Manages all phases of a large, complex research project with the principal investigator.

    + Works directly with the PI on the development and implementation of the research plan and development of research goals.

    + Responsible for the conduct and support of experiments, functioning as a specialist or technical expert on one or more phases of the project(s); works with the PI to develop the necessary computer models for analyzing experimental data.

    + Expected to write significant portions of research proposals. Expected to act as liaison with outside agencies to acquire data and share research information. Expected to make formal presentations of research findings.

     

    Functional and administrative supervision over the personnel in the laboratory. Expected to take a leadership position in the laboratory, assess the operations and make decisions about the direction and performance of the research work.

     

    Provides technical assistance and supervision in equipment, design, construction, modification, and maintenance. Function as subject specialist, needing little direction or review of work.

    Required Qualifications*

    Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics or closely related field. Master's or Doctoral degree preferred.

     

    5-6 years of related experience.

     

    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
