Overview
GovCIO is seeking a skilled Technical Writer to support enterprise-level modernization and Zero Trust implementation initiatives within the Air Force Intelligence Community (IC) environment. The successful candidate will work closely with cybersecurity engineers, software developers, system architects, and program management teams to develop, organize, and maintain high-quality technical documentation and deliverables.
This position supports a major effort focused on implementing Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM), and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solutions to modernize mission-critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.
+ Develop, edit, and maintain a wide range of technical documentation including:
+ Collaborate with engineers, software developers, and cyber analysts to translate complex technical and architectural concepts into clear, concise, and accurate documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
+ Create and update visual materials such as diagrams, flowcharts, and architecture graphics to support Zero Trust, ICAM, and SASE documentation packages.
+ Maintain consistency with organizational templates, DoD writing standards, and configuration management requirements.
+ Support the development and submission of RMF (Risk Management Framework) documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with NIST SP 800-53 and 800-207.
+ Track and update deliverables and coordinate version control of documents in Microsoft Teams or other collaboration environments.
+ Proofread, format, and quality-check technical inputs for Design Recommendation Reports, and engineering change packages.
+ Ensure all deliverables meet Air Force and DoD policy, accessibility, and classification handling standards.
+ Participate in meetings, collect input from SMEs, and generate documentation that reflects the latest decisions and configuration updates.
Qualifications
High School with 9+ years (or commensurate experience)
Clearance Required: TS/SCI
Required Skills and Experience
+ 5+ years of experience creating and editing technical documents for complex IT, cybersecurity, or defense programs.
+ Proven ability to work with engineering teams to gather source material and convert technical details into customer-ready documents.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio; experience with SharePoint and collaborative documentation environments.
+ Excellent grammar, formatting, and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
+ Familiarity with DoD documentation standards, RMF terminology, and technical style guides.
Preferred Skills and Experience
+ Experience supporting Air Force / DoD / Intelligence Community programs or technical documentation for classified systems.
+ Knowledge of NIST, DISA STIGs, and IA controls.
+ Experience with documentation management tools (e.g., Confluence, MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, or Git-based repositories).
+ Ability to design visually clear and compliant diagrams or infographics.
+ Familiarity with Agile and DevSecOps environments and documentation processes.

Posted Pay Range
The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
Posted Salary Range
USD $100,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
