    Amazon.com’s AFT Team is currently looking for a Database Administrator position for its Bellevue, WA office to design, develop and manage the persistence solutions that serve and support AFT needs. Database administrator will be part of the worldwide operations and responsible for designing, managing and maintaining highly complex, confidential, mission critical and high availability databases in a dynamic and fast paced environment. This job involves design reviews for new/existing development transportation technologies applications, identify and architect right RDBMS database solutions like PostgreSQL, MySQL, Big Data or No SQL based cloud computing and storage technologies, executing projects to deliver high quality deliverables on time, defining development processes for continuous improvement, driving the technology direction and leading the database engineering team effectively.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Develop and improve the current data architecture for AFT Databases on AWS Postgres/MySQL/Redshift

    • Keep up to date with advances in data persistence and big data technologies and run pilots to design the data architecture to scale with the increased data sets of advertiser experience.

    • Database & Application (SQL & PL/SQL) performance tuning, plan stability, hints, analytical queries.

    • Monitor and maintain database security and database software

    • Implement replication and disaster recovery strategies

    • Root cause analysis of production-related database issues

    • Daily maintenance, monitoring, problem resolution and internal customer/development support

    • Review, design and develop data models in conjunction with the application development teams

    • On-call for production databases on a rotation basis

    Basic Qualifications

    - 4+ years of database administration experience, or Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent

     

    - Knowledge of SQL, Linux, OLAP, and relational, NoSQL & multi-dimensional databases

     

    - Knowledge of AWS services, such as Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Elastic Block Storage (EBS), and Simple Storage Service (S3)

     

    - Knowledge of programming or other scripting languages and coding skills (C/C++/C#, Node.JS, Java, Python, PHP, Ruby)

     

    - Can work proactively and independently, meet deadlines, and deliver on projects and tasks

     

    - Experience handling ambiguous or undefined challenges through strong problem solving abilities

    Preferred Qualifications

    - 5+ years of database (eg. SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Kinesis) experience

     

    - Knowledge of the software development/engineering lifecycle from conception to delivery

     

    - Experience in a 24x7 operational services or support environment

     

    - Experience in root cause analysis and troubleshooting or problem solving

     

    - Experience with performance and scalability testing

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $99,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
