    The Role

     

    Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

     

    The NNS Future Submarine Design Group is looking for experienced engineers, in the Washington DC area, ready to join a diverse team defining the next generation of U.S. Navy Fast Attack submarine, SSN(X). This position researches, plans, designs and develops electrical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, motors, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic and heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and the application of energy. The successful candidate will research the planning, design, development, and testing of electrical and electromechanical systems, with a focus on control systems, instruments, machinery controls, electric machines and motion control, with a strong emphasis on modeling and simulation.

     

    This position is part of the Newport News Shipbuilding's Washington Technical Office (WTO), responsible for providing Design and Engineering support to service Navy platforms. NNS Engineering presents a challenging, fast paced team environment with the opportunity to excel, along with significant potential for professional growth. Three tracks are available: Engineering Design, Project Technical Engineering, and Technical Liaison. Engineering Design is responsible for Electrical, Structural, Mechanical and Fluid engineering design of a wide variety of ship systems and components. Project Technical Engineering is responsible for analysis and technical cognizance of specific systems. Technical Liaison is responsible for interfacing with Navy technical personnel and NNS subject matter engineering experts to help resolve emergent issues in production, design, and post-delivery ship support. The NNS WTO maintains bench strength in all engineering disciplines including Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Systems, Industrial, Nuclear, and others.

    Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;

     

    Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience

     

    Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

     

    Nice to Have

     

    Familiarity with rotating equipment.
