Boston Children’s Hospital is a global leader in pediatric health, research, and innovation—and our stories have the power to inspire, educate, and drive change. The External Communications Coordinator plays a vital role in bringing these stories to life.
Reporting to the Manager of Media Relations, this position supports proactive communications strategies that elevate the hospital’s groundbreaking research, clinical care, and patient journeys. The coordinator helps manage media opportunities, create digital and social content, and support high-visibility events such as press conferences, VIP visits, and hospital-wide announcements.

Key Responsibilities
+ Develop engaging copy and multimedia content for social platforms, the digital newsroom, and other communications channels.
+ Repurpose media coverage into digital and social content that amplifies reach and engagement.
+ Manage and draft posts for external-facing social media channels; monitor performance and refine strategies to enhance visibility.
+ Draft and edit press releases, talking points, interview backgrounders, and award submissions.
+ Write social media copy for news channels and explore opportunities for platform growth.
+ Track analytics and provide insights on reach, engagement, and emerging trends.
+ Support responses to media inquiries and identify proactive story opportunities based on current news cycles.
+ Monitor media coverage, distribute daily news updates, and assist with quarterly and annual reporting.
+ Prepare briefing materials and coordinate award submissions.
+ Collaborate with colleagues across marketing and hospital departments to source stories and highlight institutional priorities.
+ Provide administrative and logistical support for the External Communications team as needed.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field.
+ 1–3 years of experience in communications, digital content, social media, or public affairs.
+ Strong writing and digital storytelling skills with the ability to create content across multiple channels and formats.
+ Familiarity with social media strategy, analytics, and platform best practices.
+ Sound news judgment with the ability to identify, pitch, and amplify stories effectively.
+ Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
+ Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.
+ Comfort with digital tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms.
