    POSITION SUMMARY

    This position is responsible for facilitating evidence-based curricula to youth and young

     

    adults in schools and community-based organizations throughout New York City or

     

    Nassau County. Sexuality Educators conduct community outreach to raise awareness

     

    of PPGNY’s broad range of services and to connect clients to those services. As a part

     

    of our outreach strategy, the sexuality educator will collaborate with other educators to

     

    inform, educate and raise awareness about SRH and SRJ related topics through

     

    community pop-ups. Educators provide support and technical assistance for special

     

    projects within the Education Department, as well as in partnership with other PPGNY

     

    departments and PP affiliates. Flexibility in work schedule is essential, some evenings

     

    and weekends required

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Community Outreach and Facilitation (75%)

    • Facilitate sexuality education workshops and community outreach to

     

    youth. In all activities, ensure adherence to PPGNY’s mission, values,

     

    guiding principles and maintain curriculum fidelity.

     

    • Conduct community outreach that includes, but is not limited to community

     

    events, pop-ups, tabling, fairs, school events, etc.

     

    • Maintain community relationships by representing PPGNY to community partners with

     

    professionalism and connect partners to additional programs as applicable.

     

    • Attends or Facilitates trainings for professionals via the PPGNY Training Institute, as

     

    needed.

    Program Administration (15%)

    • Collect demographic, monitoring and evaluation data from workshop and training

     

    participants: compile data appropriately and prepares submission.

     

    • Support CAPP Manager in ensuring that the data in ORS is accurate

    Special Projects (5%)

    • Assists and collaborates with team to execute any cross-program opportunities or

    overarching youth program initiatives

    • Works as a member of the Education and Training Department staff and maintains high

     

    standards of professionalism and collaboration. Represents the Department at selected

     

    internal and external meetings

    Other (5%)

    • Stays current on research related to sexuality and reproductive health. Helps to identify

     

    articles to be read by other Education and Training staff.

     

    • Performs other educational and experience related duties or projects as outlined by the

     

    Education Department’s annual Work Plan or as outlined in grant applications.

    REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    + Excellent listening and relationship building skills across differences.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Bachelor’s Degree.

    + One (1) to two (2) years of experience providing educational workshops and presentations.

    + Experience working with and engaging youth.

    + Experience with communities impacted by adverse health outcomes, knowledge systemic barriers to sexual reproductive health and wellbeing faced by marginalized communities especially women, LGBTQ, poor/working class and communities of color.

    + Experience in working with diverse population and knowledge of sexual and reproductive health.

    + Analysis of how systemic oppression and racism impacts communities of color.

    + Flexible schedule.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Experience in public health and /or education.

    + Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred not required

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    + Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Periodic standing, walking, bending. Requires lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds of programming or event materials. Must be able to occasionally walk up and down stairs. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. Requires the ability to hear and to communicate orally with others. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, and will require reaching, grasping, pushing and pulling.

    TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

    + This job operates in a professional office environment. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions in a health center environment. Requires travel to various indoor and outdoor environments to conduct programming or events. Requires flexible schedule and during peak activity periods work in excess of 7.5 hours per day and/or 37.5 hours per week.
