    Basic Function

     

    An employee in this position performs semi-skilled maintenance, manual and general labor under the direction of power plant operations, foremen, journeymen, and supervisors in the various Hydro facilities. This position may be required to pass a CIP Security Background Check.

    Essential Function

    + Assignments will include manual labor associated with Fish and Wildlife studies, such as gate well dipping, transportation, guidance net, diversion screens and other bypass experiments.

    + With appropriate training, incumbents use hand tools to assist skilled trades personnel in dismantling, repair, cleaning and maintenance of equipment and perform other duties as required. May operate boom trucks up to 15 ton (for non-power block functions), gate well fish collection, pickups, work boats, flatbeds, forklifts, or other small equipment.

    + They provide janitorial services to the various power plants, building structures and offices of the Hydro facilities.

    + Duties include transporting mail, materials and/or personnel within the Project, moving furniture and equipment, cleaning parts, sweeping floors and sidewalks, shoveling snow, cutting grass, pruning shrubs and trees, digging ditches, performing minor maintenance on fisheries related equipment, but not welding or electrical work.

    + Incumbents use brooms, brushes, vacuum cleaners, window washers, floor buffers and scrubbers, shovels, axes, hoes, and lawn mowers as needed at Hydro sites and in Hydro facilities.

    + This classification requires the development of a general knowledge of the electrical and mechanical operations of a hydroelectric project, including its various machinery and equipment. The work may involve driving various District vehicles.

    Education

    + High school diploma or GED from accredited institution.

    Experience

    + Valid Washington State Driver’s License. Commercial driver’s license may be required.

    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Able to operate a ¾ ton pickup truck.

    + Able to take and pass a Commercial Driver’s License test, if required.

    + Seasonal or temporary positions must obtain a CDL before progressing to steps III and IV.

    + Demonstrated ability to work safely in a team environment.

    + Able to operate boom trucks up to 15 ton.

    + May be asked to become Asbestos Abatement Certified; once certified may be required to assist journeymen during Asbestos Abatement job assignments.

    + HMAs at step IV may be assigned to do engraving/sign-making. Work assignments will be made based on engraving knowledge and experience.

    + Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and exercise sound judgment.

    Physical Requirements

    + Must be mentally and physically fit for duty.

    + Able to lift 80 pounds.

    + Willing to work off of a ladder or scaffolding and in confined areas.

    + Willingness to perform activities at unprotected heights of less than 10 feet.

    + Willing to work in high noise/vibration areas.

    + Work in confined spaces or areas that restrict movement.

    + Work in close proximity of rotating and high voltage equipment.

    + Ability to work in extreme heat or cold, both inside and outside the power plant.

    + Ability to reach above the shoulder level.

    + Ability to differentiate colors and utilize senses (sight, hearing, touch, feel, and smell).

    + Ability to ascend/descend stairs and ladders.

    + Use computers and write legibly.
