    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine is seeking a 100% FTE Research Study Assistant for studies examining surgical outcomes of shoulder surgery. The position requires availability from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.

     

    The Research Study Assistant will implement important day-to-day functions for research studies involving human subjects. They will be involved with both established and emerging research projects with the shoulder team at the Roosevelt Bone and Joint Clinic.

     

    The Research Study Assistant will have the opportunity to ensure the success of a 20-year follow-up prospective surgical outcomes study of over 2,000 subjects. The shoulder team is involved in a variety of shoulder-related clinical research, especially contributing to the field of periprosthetic joint infections. The RSA will be supported by a strong team including the PIs, a research coordinator, shoulder fellows, and residents.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Study Recruitment, Implementation, and Retention Responsibilities (60%)

    + Screen and approach potential subjects in a clinical setting in compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements for research studies

    + Obtain informed consent and continue the informed consent process with research subjects

    + Prepare, send, and track mail/email study questionnaires using REDCap and Microsoft Office

    + To ensure participant retention, monitor patient pre-operative and follow-up clinic visits, contact study participants with missing follow-up

    + Perform study procedures (such as taking bacterial skin samples) for various research projects

    + Collaborate with clinic staff, lab medicine staff, and health care providers to complete study procedures during an active clinic

    + Maintain study compliance with HIPAA and good clinical practices

    Data Management and Reporting Responsibilities (35%)

    + Gather, record, organize, and analyze research data

    + Extract technical, medical, radiographical, and behavioral information from EPIC

    + Utilize REDCap to ensure data quality of large and evolving databases

    + Communicate clinically relevant research findings to providers

    + Attend research meetings about the various projects

     

    Perform related duties as required (5%)

    REQUIREMENTS

    + Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience OR equivalent education/experience.

    + Experience in human subject clinical research and excellent social skills to ensure recruitment and retention. The Research Study Assistant must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.

    + Within 60 days of hire, must successfully complete/renew certification in Human Subjects Research, as required by the Responsible Conduct of Research guidelines.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + A Bachelor's degree in a relevant academic area

    + Experience with data management, including REDCap and Microsoft Excel

    + Familiarity with EPIC

    + Familiarity with Microsoft Access

    + Experience in a medically related field or research

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $44,256.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $49,740.00 annual
