    Idaho Division of Veterans Services – Caring for America's Heroes

     

    This position will remain open until filled; the posting will be taken down once a candidate is selected.

    Summary:

    Perform specialized landscaping and grounds maintenance work at a state veterans cemetery; operate machinery/equipment used in gravesite preparation and landscaping; maintenance related equipment; perform related work.

    Responsibilities:

    Incumbents will frequently lift and carry items weighing approximately 50 pounds, bend, stoop, and shovel in all types of weather. Use of heavy equipment such as backhoe, dump truck, hydraulic auger, sod cutter, and tampers are routinely used for burials. Knowledge and execution of accurate alignment and placement of granite headstones require the use of specialized lifting devices and hand tools. These granite headstones may weigh up to 140 pounds. Under the direction of the supervisor, incumbents repair and upgrade the irrigation system, which requires repair and replacement of irrigation pipes and sprinklers using hand tools. Routine facility maintenance requires the use of ladders and standard hand tools to address plumbing and lighting maintenance. Daily operations throughout the cemetery will require the use of motorized equipment such as John Deer Gator for travel and the use of a forklift for loading and unloading of routine delivery trucks. In addition to performing the landscaping technician duties, incumbent may train, assign work, and review the performance of subordinates or volunteers.

    Detailed responsibilities and minimum qualifications:

    Good knowledge of groundskeeping, irrigation systems, repair and maintenance of landscaping equipment.

     

    Proficiency in the use of trimmers, mowers, and operation of small utility vehicles.

     

    A minimum of six months of experience operating heavy equipment such as a backhoe, forklift, tractor, Bobcat/ Tool Cat with hydraulic attachments, etc. OR, one year of experience in flower gardening, landscaping, heavy equipment operation, and grounds maintenance work specific to a public or private cemetery.

     

    MQ Specialties:Some positions may require a valid driver's license.
