Responsibilities
Under the guidance of departmental leadership and the Lactation Education Specialist-RN, the Lactation Consultant will coordinate, oversee and participate in the management of the breast-feeding mother-baby dyad. This role will coach, consult and educate patients on feeding plans for all newborns, including the complex neonate using current lactation theories and research to develop evidence based feeding plans. In addition, will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and outpatient lactation services to provide continuity of care post discharge.

The compensation range for the role is $36.1877- $48.4554 hourly.
Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
+ Bachelor’s Degree required.
+ Master’s degree in perinatal health, lactation studies preferred.
Minimum Experience:
+ One year experience as an IBCLC/ maternal child health/ intern with Garnet health’s Lactation program in a relevant maternal health care setting required.
+ Two (2) years recent experience as inpatient IBCLC in a hospital or physician’s office setting preferred.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and develop programs in support of breastfeeding initiatives required.
+ Experience in research and data collection preferred.
Required Certification/Registration:
+ Certification by International Board of Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) required.
+ Current and on-going BLS certification is required.
Physical Requirements:
+ Work requires extensive standing and walking.
Working Conditions:
+ Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works primarily inside and mostly sedentary work. Frequent contact with various Medical Center staff, sales representatives, employees and community members.
+ Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate point of sales system, computer and office equipment. Contact with patients/visitors under a variety of circumstances. Handles emergent/crisis situations. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Other physical requirements include the ability to bend, kneel, crouch, twist, balance and reach above, out and below.
+ Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
