    The Pipeline Safety Engineer Graduate provides technical engineering support to the Minnesota Office of Pipeline Safety (MNOPS) in the areas of damage prevention, enforcement, and pipeline inspection. This position plays a key part in promoting the safe operation of pipelines and underground facilities across the state by conducting field investigations, inspections, and data analysis, and by engaging in stakeholder education. The engineer helps ensure compliance with Minnesota Statutes 216D, Minnesota Rules 7560, and federal pipeline safety regulations (49 CFR Parts 190–195)

    Minimum Qualifications

    + A bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least two years of experience working under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer.

    + Foundational knowledge of underground facility operations, engineering principles, and safety practices.

    + Have the ability to learn, interpret and apply state and federal laws and regulations related to pipeline safety and damage prevention.

    + Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage respectfully with diverse communities and stakeholders.

    + Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% as required to meet the office needs and operate a state-issued vehicle in accordance with applicable laws and policies.

    + Proficient in using personal computers, mobile devices, and field software to conduct inspections, document investigations, and communicate findings with team members and supervisors.

    + Live in Minnesota and within an hour of the Saint Paul office.

    + Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to create documents, analyze data, and prepare presentations.

    + Proficiency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Hmong, Somali) and English, with the ability to accurately translate written and spoken messages while preserving content, context, and tone.

    Physical Requirements

    Must have the ability to learn all aspects of this position which will include moving across uneven terrain, navigating inclines, responding to potential safety hazards, Handling items weighing up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
