Job Summary and Qualifications
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Assistant Vice President (AVP) to lead payer contracting and revenue optimization across a diverse healthcare portfolio valued between $1.0B and $2.5B. This role is pivotal in driving financial performance, managing payer relationships, and supporting strategic initiatives across hospitals, behavioral health facilities, emergency departments, ambulatory surgery centers, and ancillary services. The AVP will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external payers to ensure alignment with company goals and market strategies. This role will primarily support markets in Idaho and Alaska but may also work with other markets as needed.
Key Responsibilities
+ Optimize net revenue across a $1B–$2.5B portfolio including hospitals, ASCs, EDs, behavioral health, and PSG-employed physicians.
+ Lead contract negotiations and implementation with Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and other payers.
+ Support strategic planning by preparing annual Market Strategic Reviews and PCA budget packets with RVPs.
+ Maximize contract yield using strategic pricing, legal, and analytics tools (e.g., Qlikview, Service Line tools).
+ Collaborate across teams including PCA-Government Payers and Physician Services Group (PSG) on payer contracting.
+ Drive denial management through proactive contract protections, tracking, resolution, and dispute processes.
+ Develop and mentor staff in alignment with company policies and best practices.
+ Contribute to strategic initiatives such as alternative payment models (APMs), healthcare reform, and delivery system redesign.
+ Engage with senior leadership across HCA’s Group/Division/Market/Facility teams to align PCA activities with operational goals.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree required
+ Master’s degree preferred
+ 10+ years of relevant experience is required
+ Experience in Managed Care contract negotiations for a hospital system or Managed Care Organization
