TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time, Long Term Sub
STARTING DATE: As Soon As Possible tentatively through June 2026
SALARY RANGE: $50,000 - $76,000 per school year ..Final salary offer will be prorated based on duration of Long-Term Substitute Assignment

DUTIES:
1. Good knowledge of the principles of automotive mechanics and the repair of school buses, trucks, and other vehicles.
2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and DOT inspectors.
3. Knowledge of equipment, systems and parts operation, systems and parts interrelationships, and systems and parts functions.
4. Knowledge of air brakes, hydraulics, diesel/gasoline engines, and repairs and principles of all types of vehicles, especially GMC/Chevy.
5. Checks for automotive problems using visual observation, tactile contact road test and shop testing equipment.
6. Repairs, preventative maintenance functions including lubrication, fluid checks, filter changes, tune-ups, tire checks and safety inspections on all Monroe One BOCES owned/leased vehicles.
7. Repair and/or rebuild subassemblies on school buses and other automotive systems, such as electrical, coolling, exhaust, steering and suspension, fuel systems, brakes, and drive train.
8. Replace or rebuild engines and transmissions, rewire electrical systems. Perform body repair work.
9. Respond to road calls as directed by the head mechanic.
10. Assist head mechanic in maintaining a parts inventory.
11. Stay up to date with current technology.
12. Good knowledge of New York State Department of Transportation rules and regulations governing the maintenance and repairs of school buses.
13. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the head mechanic or Director of Transportation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Civil Service eligibility as Senior Automotive Mechanic:Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Automotive Mechanics, plus one (1) year of full-time or its part-time equivalent paid experience as an automotive mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic under the supervision of a journeyman level mechanic including diesel experience; OR,
(B) Three (3) years of full-time or its part-time equivalent paid experience as a journeyman level automotive mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic including diesel experience; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
NOTES: Journeyman level experience refers to skilled mechanical work which would involve maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of all systems: brakes, suspension, cooling, exhaust, electrical, transmission and engine of vehicle equipment.
Where education is below the minimum specified, additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Depending on assignment, applicants may be required to:
(D) Possess a valid New York State Inspector's license at the time of appointment.
(E) Possess a valid New York State CDL *B* license and specific endorsements.
(F) School Bus Mechanics must possess a valid New York State Class *CDL C* Operator's license by the end of the probationary period.
(G) Candidates may be required to pass a physical examination to determine ability to perform the job.
(H) May be required to have own tools commensurate to be able to perform work assigned.
2. Five years' experience in school bus repairs and maintenance preferred.
3. Good Knowledge of common practices, tools, terminology, and safety precaution associated with automotive repairs and maintenance.
4. Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation).
