    Job Title: CNC Operator

    Job Description

    We are seeking a skilled Cutter Grinder responsible for precision smoothing, sharpening, polishing, or grinding of cutting tools such as drills, reamers, end mills, slab mills, and slotting cutters in HSS and solid carbide. You will also be tasked with making or modifying cutting tools from blueprints or written instructions, as well as modifying tool holders and boring bars.

    Responsibilities

    + Set up and operate all departmental equipment to recondition standard tooling and make or modify special tools.

    + Set up and operate grinding machines to grind industrial cutting tools.

    + Select and mount grinding wheels on machines according to specifications using hand tools.

    + Inspect, feel, and measure workpieces to ensure surfaces and dimensions meet specifications.

    + Perform basic maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating machine parts.

    + Dress grinding wheels according to specifications.

    + Monitor machine operations and make necessary adjustments; stop machines when issues arise.

    + Remove and replace worn or broken machine parts using hand tools.

    + File or finish surfaces of workpieces using prescribed hand tools.

    + Direct the flow of coolant against cutting wheels and workpieces during grinding.

    + Compute numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools and adjust tools to produce specified cuts.

    + Inspect cutting tools for defects, assess wear, and verify specifications using micrometers and loupes.

    + Attach workpieces to grinding machines.

    + Program CNC machines.

    Essential Skills

    + 2 to 4 years of experience in CNC operation.

    + Fully competent with reading blueprints.

    + Proficient in using inspection equipment such as micrometers and calipers.

    + Ability to troubleshoot and determine causes of operating errors.

    + Critical thinking and decision-making skills.

    + Experience in machine repair using the necessary tools.

    + Strong communication and cooperation skills with supervisors and peers.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or trade school preferred.

    + 0-2 years of experience required in the field or in a related field; 2-4 years preferred.

    + CNC programs, manual tool/cutter grinding experience, or machine operator experience preferred.

    Work Environment

     

    The work environment includes good working conditions with exposure to slightly dirty or elemental conditions occasionally. Work is generally performed during traditional working hours, Monday through Friday, with potential schedule changes to include weekends or evenings. Employees frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and require specific vision abilities for close vision. Our facility is equipped with 7 CNC machines, with 2 people per shift, requiring the regular use of computers and other equipment.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carol Stream, IL.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
