This position is located in the Georgia Environmental Protection Division - Watershed Protection Branch - Agricultural Water Withdrawal Program. As the Environmental Compliance Specialist IV this position is responsible for overseeing and managing the field team for the State's agricultural metering program. This position requires strong people skills and a good understanding of agricultural water use. In particular, the position will be expected to: engage with farmers and other stakeholders; maintain current knowledge of state regulations; work directly with farmers on metering responsibilities and work with contractors conducting new meter installations and meter repairs and replacements. This position will be responsible for performing field related duties for metering such as flow meter approvals, new meter install assessments, repair and replace assessments, performing QAQC, and gathering wetted acreage data. This position will utilize maps and GPS tools to locate and identify wells, surface water pumps, and flow meters. This position will provide timely and accurate documentation of field work and inspection results. This position will be responsible for assisting at our meter warehouse with meter deliveries and meter orders for field contractors.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- A graduate degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Engineering (Agricultural, Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Sanitary) or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Knowledge or experience with interpreting and applying state regulations.
- Experience with agricultural water use, metering, and irrigation.
- Demonstrated ability to work with farmers and other stakeholders
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, geology, engineering, or another closely related field from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional job-related experience in environmental protection; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Environmental Complnc Spec 3 (RCP022) or position equivalent.
