    Job Summary

    The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and the Department of Comparative Literature seeks qualified applicants for two Lecturer I positions to each teach three sections of COMPLIT 122 for the Winter 2026 term. This appointment is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026 and end on April 30, 2026.

     

    Each course section is equivalent to 33.33% appointment effort. These positions are pending budgetary approval and enrollment demand.

    Course Description

    COMPLIT 122: Writing World Literatures

     

    COMPLIT 122 is an intensive writing course designed to increase media and cultural literacies across boundaries of language, history, genre, and culture while fulfilling the LSA First-Year Writing Requirement. It requires intense work on composition, argumentation, and contextualization of the creative texts from a comparative perspective. Topics and readings vary by instructor, but should be selected to prepare students to write in diverse academic contexts.

    Responsibilities*

    Duties of these lecturer I positions are expected to include teaching, designing a course syllabus, developing course materials, leading recitation sections, evaluating and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours. A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a lecturer I in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester. Full-time positions are available.

    Required Qualifications*

    + PhD in Literature or another humanities department

    + Previous experience teaching a First-Year Writing Requirement course at the University of Michigan

     

    The selection criteria used for this search are based on how the applicant's education and experience meet the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.

     

    Modes of Work

     

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.     Additional Information

    Successful candidates must be available to teach three sections of COMPLIT 122 according to one of the following schedules:

    **Group A:** Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30 - 10 AM, 11:30 - 1 PM, and 4 - 5:30 PM

    **Group B:** Wednesdays and Fridays, 11:30 - 1 PM, 2:30 - 4 PM, and 4 - 5:30 PM

     

    The Director of Undergraduate Studies will review and approve syllabi before the start of the term.

     

    Union Affiliation

     

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
