    Behind every great performance is a great educator. The Theatre Department at SUNY Oneonta seeks a Lecturer in Dance/Theatre to take on a leading role beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will receive a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal, and will join a collaborative department committed to artistic exploration, student mentorship, and creative practice. Expectations include leading and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Dance Minor within the Theatre Department.

     

    This position offers the opportunity to shape the future of dance at SUNY Oneonta by coordinating the Dance Minor, mentoring students, choreographing for departmental productions, and collaborating with faculty across disciplines. We welcome candidates who are excited to contribute to a vibrant, student-centered department that values creativity, diversity, and community engagement.

     

    The Theatre Department at SUNY Oneonta blends classroom instruction with hands-on, experiential learning to prepare students for a wide range of careers in the performing arts. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, the department offers a Bachelor of Science in Theatre and minors in both Theatre and Dance. Students have opportunities to act, direct, design, and stage-manage in a collaborative environment modeled on professional practices. With a dedicated faculty of working artists and scholars, the department fosters creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and artistic excellence.

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    + Leading the Dance Minor Program.

    + Coordinating the Dance Minor and expanding/updating the curriculum offered within the dance minor.

    + Create the course schedule of Dance classes each semester.

    + Manage the staffing of Dance Instructors.

    + Mentor and advise the student Dance Minors.

    + Teach two Dance Courses each semester.

    + Choreograph the Theatre Department Spring Musical each spring semester.

    Job Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

    + M.A., M.F.A., or M.D.A. in Dance or a related discipline.

    + Experience in Choreography/Teaching in higher education or professionally.

    + Strong interpersonal, collaborative, organizational, and communications skills.

    + Knowledge of a variety of dance genres, such as tap, ballet, ballroom, jazz, modern, folk/multi-cultural, or other dance genres.

    + Knowledge of current teaching techniques in dance, such as peer learning, kinesthetic approaches, improvisation, guided exploration, auditory/visual methods, or other teaching techniques.

    Preferred:

    + Ph.D. in Dance or a related discipline. ABD considered.

    + Experience in research and creative activity.

    + Experience with servicing diverse and/or multicultural populations.
