Summary
Performs highly skilled work in landscape and facility maintenance of the Venetian Pool facility including the pool draining and filling process along with all aquatic related chemical pumps. Requires familiarity with best practices in landscape and pool maintenance and the ability to operate various pieces of equipment and vehicles. Performs advanced technical and supervisory work overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of aquatic pump systems, chlorination systems, circulation equipment, and related facility infrastructure at the Venetian Pool. This position also includes responsibility for general facility maintenance. Work requires expertise in plumbing, pumps, control panels, drains, fill systems, and overall aquatic facility upkeep. Duties involve both hands-on technical tasks and oversight of maintenance staff, contractors, and seasonal workers. May assist in training Maintenance Worker I’s.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

Performs advanced technical and supervisory work overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of aquatic pump systems, chlorination systems, circulation equipment, and related facility infrastructure at the Venetian Pool. This position also includes responsibility for general facility maintenance such as restrooms, offices, classrooms, kitchens, patios, walkways, and parking areas. Work requires expertise in plumbing, pumps, control panels, drains, fill systems, and overall aquatic facility upkeep. Duties involve both hands-on technical tasks and oversight of maintenance staff, contractors, and seasonal workers.
Oversees, operates, maintains, and repairs all aquatic pumps, filtration, and circulation systems at the Venetian Pool.
Maintains and calibrates chlorination systems to ensure safe and balanced water quality.
Monitors, repairs, and programs control panels related to aquatic systems, including automated pump and chlorination controllers.
Manages drain and fill procedures, including the safe execution of draining processes, refills, and water treatment protocols.
Conducts preventive maintenance on pumps, chlorination equipment, valves, pipes, drains, motors, and related infrastructure.
Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues affecting pool operations.
Supervises and trains maintenance staff in aquatic system maintenance and safety procedures.
Maintains accurate logs of chemical usage, pump maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
Oversees contractors and temporary staff performing maintenance or repairs on aquatic systems.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local codes, health department standards, and City safety regulations.
Responds to emergencies and breakdowns, including after-hours as needed.
Performs general facility maintenance, including minor building, landscape, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
Assists in the maintenance of restrooms, offices, classrooms, kitchens, patios, walkways, and parking areas to ensure clean, safe, and functional conditions.
Maintains inventory of all maintenance and cleaning supplies; coordinates ordering when necessary.
Assists with preparation for special events, including setup, teardown, and logistics support.
Trims and prunes tree limbs and roots. Mows turf, rakes, trims hedges, pulls weeds, and lays sod. Fertilizes prunes and pots plants.
Loads, unloads and moves equipment, supplies, materials and tools. Moves and arranges furniture for City functions.
Digs and backfills trenches, ditches, foundations, holes for planting, etc.
Performs general repairs associated with building maintenance. Assists workers of higher classifications in installing and maintaining sprinkler systems.
Uses shovels, rakes, weed eaters, gas hedge shears, gas powered blowers, hand sprayers, lawn edgers, hydraulic lifts, pressure cleaners, trash pump, and other related equipment. Operates riding mower, drives a 3 quarter ton pick- up truck and dump truck. Maintains equipment and makes minor repairs. Fire hoses repair, and installation, and routine inspections of the drain and fill equipment and pumps.
Oversees all chlorination, circulation and general pool maintenance at the Venetian Pool.
Cleans and disinfects all Venetian Pool facility restrooms to ensure that proper sanitary conditions are met each day.
Empties and cleans garbage receptacles as needed.
Cleans and removes debris from parking lots, exterior facility perimeter, beach, patios, walkways, offices, classrooms, kitchen & etc.
Assists foremen in the training of Maintenance Worker I’s.
Responds, as required, to emergencies including, but not limited to, hurricanes and other disasters. May be required to work evening and weekend shifts on occasion.
Responsible for maintaining inventory of all maintenance and cleaning materials.
Oversees the performance of temporary employees and contractors.
Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
Conforms to all safety rules, including wearing and using all appropriate safety equipment.
May require overnight work for facility draining and filling process.
Performs other related tasks as required
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in pool/aquatic facility maintenance, plumbing, or pump systems repair, including chlorination systems.
Supervisory or lead experience preferred.
A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for education requirements.
Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification preferred.
HOLIDAYS: 16 days including 3 floating days.
SICK LEAVE: 96 hours annually.
ANNUAL LEAVE: 80 hours in the first year of employment, increasing up to 188 hours after 25 years. Employees must take 40 hours of annual leave each year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: 5 or 10 work days for the death of a family member in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and the City's Personnel Rules & Regulations.
MEDICAL INSURANCE: Fully paid by the City (HMO Select). Coverage becomes effective 1st of month following 30 days. Employee may purchase coverage for eligible dependents at a cost of approximately 50% of the premium.
DENTAL INSURANCE: Available to all employees through payroll deduction.
LIFE INSURANCE : Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment equal to 1 x annual salary, fully paid by the City (up to $200,000).
VOLUNTARY BENEFITS: Several plans available, such as Short-Term Disability, Life Insurance and Critical Illness policies through payroll deductions.
LEGAL SERVICES: Legal Service plan available at a cost to employees through payroll deductions.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Employees are given the option to defer a portion of their pre-tax salary into the 457 Deferred Compensation Program.
TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: $2000 per semester ($6,000 maximum annually) for approved college coursework.
SAFETY GLASSES: Required safety glasses are provided every 2 years.
RECREATIONAL USE: Employee, spouse and immediate family members seventeen (17) years of age and under are entitled to the benefits below:
- Venetian Pool – No charge for daily admission.
- Tennis Centers – No charge for daily court fees.
- Youth Center – 50% off residential rates for memberships and 50% off camps and other programs.
Golf at Biltmore & Granada:
- Monday through Friday – no charge.
- Saturday, Sunday and Holidays:
- Before Noon – Twilight fees apply
- After Noon – No charge
(cart fees apply at all times)
PENSION: Mandatory employee contribution of 10% of salary. Vesting period is 10 years.

As of 6/14/2016 - DEFINED CONTRIBUTION: 401(a) - Contribution by City of 7% of employee base annual salary. Vesting period 5 years. Employee not required to contribute.
