    Under the direction of the Director of Coding and Manager of Coding, the Coding Supervisor will assist with oversight of daily coding operations, including but not limited to; work volume and distribution, workflow questions, reconciling reports, research on coding issues, and onboarding of new employees. The Coding Supervisor will work to ensure coding staff are compliant with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, Official Coding Guidelines, Federal and State regulations, the American Hospital Association coding guidelines and its publication Coding Clinic. The manager will assist with promoting a positive working environment, both within the department and with outside departments.

    Job Description:

    **Essential Duties & Responsibilities** including but not limited to:

    1. Assist the manager in working with staff to ensure compliance of, and proper coding technique as defined by CMS regulations, Local Medicare Review Policies (LMRPs), Local Carrier Determinations (LCDs), the AMA, and any applicable Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) compliance policies, and/or any relevant accrediting organizations.

    2. Provides ongoing coding education as well as new coder education on proper coding and documentation.

    4. Supervise coding staff for the coding division on day-to-day operations, under the guidance of the manager department policies enforces policies and procedures.

    5. Works with the manager to review all revenue cycle relevant workflows, including coding, charge review, internal and external audits, as well as denials.

    6. Provides analysis on productivity and impact of coding activities.

    7. Provides and organizes training for staff and new hires.

    8. Assists management in departmental reporting requirements.

    9. Assists management with special projects as needed.

    10. Works with the Manager to analyze coding denials and patient inquiries and works in conjunction with coding staff and PFS to implement recommended corrections.

    11. Assists outside departments with coding issues.

    12. Performs research, run various reporting, and assists with general coding as needed and as requested

    13. Maintains and reviews department workflow documentation and training materials.

    14. Consults with the Director/Associate Director and/or other leaders to resolve problems, such as equipment performance, output quality, and work schedules.

    15. Participates in a broad range of human resources functions as they relate to assigned staff, including interviewing, selection, training, performance appraisal, competence assessment, documentation, and employee relations.

    16. Evaluates the job performance of assigned staff and recommends appropriate personnel action where needed.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:

    High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)

     

    Associate or bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field (Preferred)

    Licensure, Certification & Registration:

    Relevant AHIMA/AAPC Credentials required: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, CCS-P, COC, or CCS

    Experience:

    + Minimum of three (3) years of coding experience or related revenue cycle field in a high-volume practice/hospital/system setting. (Required)

    + Previous supervisor experience (Preferred)

    **Skills, Knowledge & Abilities** :

    + Demonstrated thorough knowledge of professional or hospital coding standards, including CPT, ICD-10-PCS, and ICD-10-CM coding.

    + Excellent customer service skills.

    + Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills required.

    + Ability to utilize tact, diplomacy, and discretion at all times.

    + Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

    + Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

    + Excellent organizational and time management skills

    + Strong interpersonal skills

    + Ability to meet deadlines

    + Ability to problem solve and make independent decisions

    + Ability to collaborate and promote teamwork and a positive working environment

    + Working knowledge of a variety of pc software programs including word processing, spreadsheets, and database entry and reporting, with the ability to learn new systems as they become available and/or required.

    + Practical knowledge of EHR and billing systems.

    + In the absence of certain of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.

    Pay Range:

    $77,938.00 USD - $104,894.00 USD

     

    The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
