    Hours Full-time, indicate working hours - M-TH 7:30 am-5:30 pm, F-7:30 am-11:30 am, Overtime, describe requirements - as needed during peak periods

    Summary of Position

    Under direct supervision of the Veteran Services Coordinator, this position is responsible for advising and assisting students with their veteran education benefits, certifying enrollments to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, and providing excellent customer service. Duties are performed with an emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies and adherence to campus policy. This position is responsible for interpreting, explaining, and analyzing Veteran Affairs (VA) and/or Texas Veterans Commission ( TVC ) regulatory changes and evaluating and monitoring student eligibility for benefits. This position spends the majority of daily routines certifying enrollments, communicating with students, and providing support while working with students to resolve complaints. This position also requires troubleshooting issues and assisting students in overcoming challenges that could hinder progress to graduation.

    Minimum Required Education

    High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree from a nationally, regionally or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education preferred.

     

    Minimum Required Experience

     

    Four years wage earning clerical experience or certification/successful completion of a state certified program with one-year wage earning clerical experience.

     

    • Two years of experience in student services preferred. Knowledge of Veterans Educational benefits and of VA certifying software (VA-Enrollment Manager) and Ellucian’s Colleague student system is beneficial.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + General knowledge of all Veteran Education Benefits.

    + General knowledge of veteran services systems to include: Colleague student system or similar software programs including knowledge of U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Enrollment Manager.

    + Knowledge of Federal and State laws, policies and regulations including the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Texas Veterans Commission

    + Display empathy and positive regard for others in written, verbal and non-verbal communications.

    + Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    + Ability to manage difficult or emotional student situations to deescalate situations while maintaining self-control and focus on solving conflict.

    + Display empathy and positive regard for others in written, verbal and non-verbal communications.

    + Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multi-task.

    + Ability to be detail-oriented; able to interpret and explain the college’s veteran services policies and procedures to veterans and their families.

    + Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.

    + Ability to maintain confidentiality of students and their records prescribed with FERPA .
