The Commerce Customer Enablement (CCE) Engineering team is hiring a Software Engineer II to build secure, scalable, and intelligent backend services that power Microsoft’s global support and commerce operations. This role focuses on designing and developing core technologies that enable automation, agentic workflows, and resilient infrastructure—empowering Microsoft advocates, partners, and customers. CCE Engineering sits at the heart of Microsoft’s commerce and support ecosystem. We are reimagining our platforms from reactive, manual systems to AI-first, self-service, and predictive experiences. Our mission is to enable global scale, resilience, and simplicity across critical services such as Threshold Billing, credit workflows, escalation handling, and partner programs. Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product managers and engineering leads to understand requirements and translate them into robust service designs. - Build and maintain microservices and APIs that integrate with internal systems and external-facing platforms. - Ensure high availability, performance, and security of backend components across cloud environments. - Implement telemetry, logging, and monitoring to support observability and incident response. - Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for reliable service delivery. - Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and sprint planning to drive engineering excellence. - Apply secure coding practices and ensure compliance with privacy, accessibility, and safety standards.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
+ 2+ of **distributed systems** fundamentals (scalability, resilience, consistency), **data structures/algorithms** , and **secure coding** practices.
Other Requirements
+ Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred qualifications
+ Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
