As a part of nVent, the Electrical Products Group is a leading provider of infrastructure solutions, designed to help ensure safe and reliable electrical operations primarily in the infrastructure vertical, including power utilities and data centers.
WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS POSITION:
Creates product designs and documentation for new and existing products by providing accurate layouts, 3D models, drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and other documentation to fully define product for manufacture. Work will include projects with significant scope and/or complexity and minimal supervision from engineers and supervisor.
Manages both small and some parts of large scale projects independently.
Independently prepares comprehensive product layouts on project design aspects
Designs components and assemblies using 3D CAD system.
Directs and assists with the build of components and assemblies for prototypes and pilot builds
Participates in Lean activities as requested
Assists in the development of engineering, drafting and release standards
Performs tolerance stack analysis of complex assemblies and drawings prior to release of documentation
Participates in the product development process, including design brainstorming and voice of customer activity
Initiates/prepares Engineering Change Order (ECO) documentation, including the development of BOM’s
Performs research and investigation to obtain missing information to ensure all specifications are correctly presented on documentation
Performs required calculations to ensure all dimensions, tolerances and other specifications are correct as represented with minimal checking required
Provides technical expertise in the use of required tools such as SolidWorks and Enovia
Evaluates and estimates incoming engineering work and assigns to Designer Associates as required
Provides leadership and limited work direction and technical support to Designer Associates
Assumes documentation leadership role with some degree of supervision
YOU HAVE:
Two year technical degree in drafting or design preferred
Ideally 3+ years mechanical, drafting/design required
Advanced knowledge of drafting standards, GD&T, and manufacturing processes
Advanced knowledge of Product Data Management, ECO and Product Development Processes
Advanced knowledge/aptitude in mechanical designing, assisting and directing the build of components and assemblies
Advanced skills using Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Enovia and JD Edwards
Knowledge of manufacturing processes
Skills to independently identify and define materials and information needed for a project
Skills to assemble engineered design packages
Demonstrated skills in attention to detail and accuracy
