Description
Under general supervision of the Custodial Lead, the Assistant Lead Custodian performs a variety of duties as a working custodian and provides assistance; which includes organization and communication skills, and performing a variety of custodial duties which involves operation of a variety of cleaning equipment. Duties assure proper allocation of staff and completion of requisite duties by the group.
This is a Support Staff union position as stated in the Support Staff collective bargaining agreement Grade Level C.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
+ Maintain a neat, uniformed, and professional appearance at all times.
+ Allocate manpower at the start of shift based on staffing limits and open job orders. Assign work zones to custodians. Coordinate other activities of custodians. Assign custodians to correct any deficiencies. Report daily outcomes of shift to Lead Custodian or Asst. Director of Facilities.
+ Conduct periodic inventory of supplies and equipment in custodial closets college wide. Maintain and update records of supplies and materials in the electronic platform specific to this task.
+ Operate and maintain all college equipment in a professional and safe manner in accordance with rules, regulations, and departmental guidelines. Provide assistance of proper maintenance of custodial equipment.
+ Report all unforeseen circumstances with personnel that occur during the scheduled shift to the Custodial Lead and or, Assistant Director.
+ Report to Public Safety or to Custodial Supervisor any suspicious persons or activity on or around RCBC properties. Report all unsafe conditions immediately.
+ Assist Lead in training of new and current employees in custodial procedures.
+ Generate work orders addressing safety or maintenance needs via Schooldude and PM Direct. Maintain and update job specific work orders. Assure all custodial staff are utilizing the college approved computer platforms in the most efficient and effective manner.
+ Perform setups as assigned by Custodial Lead in a timely manner.
+ Perform custodial duties which include but are not limited to cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, cleaning offices, classrooms, public areas, emptying trash, move and arrange furniture, assist in moving of office equipment and other materials. Sweep and/or vacuum floors/carpets, hallways, corridors, stairways, and mop, scrub, wax, and polish floor surfaces using heavy-duty power equipment. Perform necessary service and preventive maintenance such as cleaning and oiling equipment, to prevent breakdown and insure effective and efficient operation.
+ Pick up litter from the immediate vicinity of assigned buildings around entrances and steps and sweeps free of leaves.
+ Assist Lead with coordination of custodial staff to perform snow and ice management duties; scrape and shovel snow and ice from entranceways, steps, walkways, bus shelters, and plazas. Collaborate with other department Leads and Assistant Leads to achieve the appropriate level of success.
+ Comply with all local/federal laws and regulations for the proper storage use and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
+ Become familiar with the location and use of fire safety equipment.
+ Act in accordance as a “Critical Time Employee”
+ Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education Required: High School Graduate
Experience Required:Three (3) years of work experience in the custodial service field. One year of supervisory experience is preferred.
Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements
+ Ability to coordinate the work flow of all custodial operations.
+ Must Possess a valid NJ Driver’s License.
+ Ability to operate and demonstrate a variety of cleaning industry equipment.
+ Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
+ Ability to safely and properly use and train others on authorized cleaning agents.

INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:
Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
Employee Classification:Support Staff- Grade C.
