We’re seeking a proven leader to head and expand our Municipal Wastewater Practice in Denver, Colorado.

    Our Denver Water Team is a dynamic group of 65 professionals dedicated to water and wastewater projects for municipal and industrial clients — spanning treatment, distribution, and collection systems. Our projects improve the resilience, sustainability, and reliability of water systems that serve millions of people. Department managers play a key role in shaping our strategy, mentoring others, and leading teams to win and deliver exceptional projects. We’re looking for a technically grounded leader with experience in planning, design, and construction of municipal wastewater projects — and a passion for developing people and growing a thriving practice.

    Specific areas of responsibility include the following:

    + Perform business development for the Denver wastewater treatment department.

    + Provide for growth of the department including recruitment, development and retention of staff.

    + Own the performance management process for staff and conduct annual performance appraisals.

    + Serve as the technical advisor providing senior-level input and evaluation on projects in the region.

    + Organize projects and their proper staffing to assure guidelines for their successful execution are followed per company guidelines and standards.

    + Monitor and manage the allocation of staff resources in order to meet or exceed time chargeability goals.

    + Monitor financials for wastewater treatment projects with a focus on maintaining profitability through established metrics.

    + Participate in annual business planning process.

    + Meet sales and profitability goals to be established through annual business planning.

    + Work with other Water Practice department managers to form a cohesive group with regards to staff utilization, project execution, and overall synergy.

    + Advocating for safety within the group.

    **Measures of Performance:** (These performance measures will be quantified in cooperation with the Denver Regional Office Manager and Denver Water Global Practice Manager.)

    + Ability to attract, hire, develop, and retain the best people into Burns & McDonnell.

    + Attainment of sales, revenue and income goals.

    + Growth of the wastewater treatment department based on sales, revenue, net income (profitability) and staff size.

    + Attainment of billable time targets for staff.

    + Ability to maximize profitability on projects.

    + Ability to execute projects meeting or exceeding client expectations for quality, schedule and budget.

    + Ability to execute projects in a manner to meet and exceed internal expectations for quality, schedule, labor/cost budgets, project profitability, safety, and client satisfaction.

    Qualifications

    The successful candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

    + Bachelor Degree in civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering or related degree from accredited program required.

    + Minimum of seven (7) years of related professional experience in design and/or project management required (a technical master’s degree could substitute one year of experience)

    + Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.

    + Experience must include managing a wide variety of wastewater treatment engineering projects strongly preferred.

    + A Registered Professional Engineer strongly preferred.

    + Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.

    + Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage change.

    + Demonstrated supervision skills and personnel management skills to review work assignments and performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.

    + An established network of contacts in the Rocky Mountain region and demonstrated business development capabilities strongly preferred.

    + Must be expert in use of computer software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

    + Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

    + Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.

     

    Compensation

     

    $190,000.00-280,000.00 Yearly

     

    The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
