Job Title: Heat Treat Operator
Classification: Non-Exempt
Department: Forging
Reports to: Forging Supervisor
Position: Day and Night Available
Purpose:
Certified heat treatment operators are responsible for changing the chemical makeup of the aluminum structure by utilizing the heat treatment process. Additionally, they are responsible for ensuring that the aluminum is at the correct hardness within the tolerance set by KAAP customers and KAAP internal guidelines. This is a safety critical position within KAAP’s processes.
General Duties:
+ Ensures consistent basic quality standards and procedures.
+ Operates heat treat furnace for product quality assurance.
+ Ensures heat treat utilization is at a maximum operational availability.
+ Directly works with maintenance to ensure equipment up time.
+ Promotes, maintains, and enforces safe and healthy working conditions for themselves and other KAAP employees in accordance with regulatory requirements and Company standards.
+ Assist in the preparation of daily production reports and maintain appropriate records.
+ Ensures all SOP are followed and not deviated from.
+ Other duties as assigned by the Forging Supervisor.
Skills:
+ Knowledge of the following:
+ Fundamental principles of heat treatment
+ Structure and capacity of the heat treatment machinery
+ Operation of the heat treatment machinery
+ Procedures for creating records of heat treatment processes
+ Loading and unloading of parts in the heat treatment furnace
+ Verification of process temperature and time
+ Responses and troubleshooting when abnormalities occur
+ Procedures for measuring hardness
+ Responses when hardness abnormalities occur.
+ Forklift operation.
+ Understand and process QAD transactions.
+ Basic computer literacy; Windows OS, Microsoft Office
+ Understanding and utilization of 5S concept.
+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
+ Ability to solve practical problems and troubleshoot equipment issues.
Requirements:
+ High school degree or GED equivalency.
+ Basic mechanical aptitude.
+ Must be willing to work a (4 Star) 12-hour shifts (willing to work every other weekend and some holidays). Shifts are either 5:00 AM to 5:10 PM or 5:00 PM to 5:10 PM. New Operators will most likely start on night shift.
+ Able to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks for extended periods, to include but not limited to: lifting, walking, standing, stooping, pulling, and pushing.
+ Willing to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations; including wearing personal protective equipment.
+ Must work safely.
+ Willing to work in hot/humid, cold, noisy industrial environment.
+ Willing to work around dust, oil, grease, chemicals, and other substances.
+ Able to use a computer for basic reporting and documentation.
+ Good interpersonal skills.
+ Good communication skills. Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally.
+ Able to accurately use basic math.
+ Required to perform 180 hours of on the job training with a certified heat treat operator and pass a written test to become certified.
