Job Summary and Qualifications

Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) Specialists are part of an exceptional team made up of perfusionists, surgeons, intensivists and nurses with advanced training. The ECLS can be used for a time after surgery to temporarily sustain heart functions in patients who would not be able to survive and recover without it. What You Will Do In This Role

+ Provide ECLS care to patients within scope of Nurse Practice Act & NBRC (Respiratory Therapist)

+ Works under the direction of the Surgical Director, Medical Director, pediatric perfusion and ECLS Coordinator

+ Collaborates with CHSU & PICU Nurse Managers and Respiratory Manager for the educational needs of the staff in caring for ECMO patients

+ Help coordinate and participate in activities of the ECMO team required for quality patient care

+ Participates in education to various groups regarding services rendered and care for patients requiring ECMO within the congenital heart surgery unit and throughout the organization

What Qualifications You Will Need

+ If RN, BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position

+ Registered Nurse or Respiratory Therapist with a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience and that is pursuing or has completed an approved ECLS training program or a Certified Clinical Perfusionist, with active Texas License, with a minimum of 3 years of experience

+ Current Registered Nurse or Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the State of Texas **or** Certified Clinical Perfusionist with active Texas license

+ Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider

+ PALS preferred

+ CCRN preferred (if RN)

+ Advanced principles and techniques of circulation technology and general pediatric, cardiac, and neonatal critical care

+ Interpersonal skills necessary to work with physicians, hospital employees, patients, family members, and community professionals

+ Ability to teach adult learners using a variety of teaching methods
