Essential Job Duties:
The Senior Pre-Award Research Specialist plays a key leadership role in a high-volume research administration office, supporting faculty in securing external funding to advance the university’s research mission. As the federal funding landscape evolves, this position will lead efforts to identify, develop, and pursue new funding opportunities, including federal, foundation, corporate, and other non-traditional sponsors. In addition to managing a portfolio of complex proposals, the Senior Specialist will serve as a mentor and team lead for other Pre-Award Specialists, providing guidance, training, and oversight to ensure timely and compliant proposal submissions.
Hybrid 2 days per week after onsite training has been completed and a proven track record has been maintained.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
+ Lead and mentor Pre-Award Specialists in day-to-day operations.
+ Establish and promote best practices for proposal development and submission.
+ Assist in onboarding and continuous training of staff.
+ Serve as a key liaison between faculty, central research offices, and sponsors.
+ Partner with post-award colleagues to ensure seamless transition from proposal to award.
Required Qualifications:
+ Demonstrated knowledge of federal funding agencies (e.g., NIH , NSF , DoD) and electronic submission systems (e.g., Grants.gov, Research.gov or NIH Assist).
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree preferred and 3 or more years of job-related experience.
+ Certified Research Administrator designation.
