    About Logansport State Hospital :

    Logansport State Hospital is a state-operated inpatient psychiatric hospital for adults with mental illness. Using an interdisciplinary approach and evidence-based programming, we promote recovery and return of the individual to the community.

    Salary Statement:

    The salary for this position traditionally starts at $45,422.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

     

    A Day in the Life:

     

    Program Administration Support

     

    + Prioritize and organize the daily care of individuals to ensure consistent and effective service delivery.

    + Make care assignments and assist in creating treatment plans in collaboration with other clinical staff to meet individual needs.

    + Provide direct observation of individuals with specific monitoring situations (e.g., line-of-vision or one-on-one precautions) to ensure safety and therapeutic engagement.

    + Direct support staff to coordinate workflow and communicate problems to unit supervisors to maintain smooth operations.

    + Complete required documentation of nursing notes, transfer forms, and other records to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

    + Provide orientation and support to staff on the unit to maintain continuity and quality of care.

     

    Program Management Support

     

    + Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of individuals' physical and psychosocial status from admission to discharge to inform care decisions.

    + Administer medications and treatments according to state-operated health care facility policies and procedures to support recovery and wellness.

    + Develop and implement nursing care plans for acute medical problems to address evolving needs.

    + Complete medication administration supervision monitors and clinical observation notes for support staff to ensure compliance and quality

    + Educate individuals and family members regarding medication, procedures, and treatment goals and objectives to promote understanding and engagement.

    + Respond and intervene in emergency situations and with agitated individuals to maintain safety and therapeutic environment.

    + Ensure proper safety and infection control standards are met for the unit to protect staff and individuals.

    + Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    + Ability to proofread and edit documentation for clarity and accuracy.

     

    Displaying Technical Expertise

     

    + Ability to understand and apply medical and facility terminology.

    + Knowledge of and ability to interpret nursing and facility policies and procedures.

    + Ability to use MS Office applications and electronic patient records.

     

    Driving for Results

     

    + Proficiency in computer skills and ability to learn programs used in maintaining electronic medical records.

    + Ability to serve as a patient advocate.

     

    Showing Care & Understanding

     

    + Additional knowledge and/or ability may be required based on the population the facility serves (e.g., children, adolescents, geriatrics).

    + Ability to respond compassionately and effectively in high-stress or emergency situations.

     

    Experience & Education

     

    + Must possess an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college.

    + Must have a license to practice nursing in the State of Indiana as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

    + Must hold and maintain CPR certification.

    + Must stay current with behavioral intervention training.

     

    Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
