Description We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Salinas, California. In this role, you will support the finance department by managing essential accounting tasks and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This position requires strong technical skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining accuracy in general ledger accounts.

• Contribute to the creation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in alignment with GAAP standards.

• Process invoices, payments, and reimbursements, ensuring timely management of vendor accounts and collections.

• Monitor budgets and track expenditures, providing detailed variance reports for multiple programs.

• Collaborate with the payroll team to review timesheets, process adjustments, and ensure regulatory compliance.

• Maintain adherence to organizational policies, federal and state regulations, and grant requirements while assisting with audit preparations.

• Analyze financial data to identify trends and discrepancies, offering actionable recommendations for improvement.

• Organize and maintain financial records, preparing correspondence and supporting special projects as needed. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

• Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, ideally within the public or education sector.

• Proficiency in accounting software such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle.

• Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger, and journal entries.

• Familiarity with month-end close processes and financial reporting requirements.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite.

• Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail in a deadline-driven environment.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with teams and stakeholders.
