    What Success Looks Like In This Job

     

    To supervise personnel and the daily operations of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division Court Services Section. Court Services consists of Classifications, Work Release, Supervised Release (GPS Monitoring), Pretrial, Time Computation/State Offender and the Inmate Worker Program.

     

    Examples of Duties for Success

     

    •Supervise and direct the non-certified specialists assigned to Court Services which encompasses Classifications, Work Release, Supervised Release (GPS Monitoring), Pretrial, Time Computation/State Offender, and the Inmate Worker Program.

    •Report to the Detention Manager.

    •Adhere to policies, procedures, and post orders.

    •Attend required trainings and practice safety/security awareness.

    •Utilize effective interpersonal communication skills (verbal, nonverbal, written, listening).

    •Provide professional customer service.

    •Promote a positive team atmosphere.

    •Participate in frequent communication and interaction with judicial staff, attorneys, a wide variety of law enforcement agencies, and other professional partnerships.

    •Perform various personnel related functions such as preparing and modifying work schedules, granting time off, providing constructive feedback and/or disciplining employees.

    •Participate in the interview/hiring process and conduct annual performance reviews of employees.

    •Assign job tasks and explain special orders and information to Court Services Specialists.

    •Check and maintain performance of assigned staff while on duty. Ensure the execution of orders and adherence to Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures.

    •Complete daily supervisory duties related to the Court Services Specialists while engaging in the receipt, preparation, and maintenance of various records, reports, and related materials.

    •Review records and reports submitted by staff for completion and accuracy.

    •Responsible for day-to-day operations of a satellite office – Supervised Release Program (GPS Monitoring)

    •Fiscal responsibilities include preparing/justifying billings for costs associated with inmate housing or services, in addition to booking fee refunds.

    •Maintain, monitor, and prepare reports involving high-risk issues.

    •Attend internal meetings for the Sheriff’s Office.

    •Ensure compliance with statutory requirements. Understand and keep up on new legislation and caselaw.

    •Research and recommend best practices for new and improved work processes, programs, and policies.

    •Perform supervisory duties in the absence of a superior or absence of other first line supervisors.

    •Arrange courtesy holds for the inmates detained in the facility or for other jurisdiction inmates.

    •Provide written reports documenting incidents.

    •Review and update policy and procedures, post orders, and training manuals.

    •Prepare and instruct training classes.

    •Investigate classification overrides, booking/pretrial discrepancies, DNA investigative calls, and other requests.

    •Respond to website inquiries and work release approvals.

    •Research inmate release issues.

    •Receive and investigate inmate grievances and personnel complaints in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

    *On call by pager 24 hours a day

    •Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications for Success

     

    •Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Criminal Justice/Law enforcement, Public Administration, or related field. A combination of education and work experience may be considered.

    •Ability to act and react to emergency and/or threatening situations in a manner consistent with laws, policies, and procedures.

    •2 year Leadership or Supervisory experience

    •Minimum 5 years’ experience in Criminal Justice and/or broad working knowledge of the criminal justice system and how various components interface.

    •Must possess good oral and written communication skills

    •Knowledge of various legal documents, to include but not limited to the following: affidavits, writ of habeas corpus, warrants, mittimus, subpoenas, and teletypes.
