    The Grounds Department is accepting applications for a Horticultural Attendant Leader position.

    This position exists to assist, guide, and support crew workers from the Grounds Department in the daily operations for the beautification, growth, and maintenance of grounds at the University. The Grounds Department is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of approximately 180 acres of land. Work assignments will be under the direction by the two Horticulture Foremen. Crew may consist of Horticultural Attendants, Equipment Operators, 6 to 8 inmates and other related personnel.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two years of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or grounds keeping; OR

     

    Twelve semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    The Horticultural Attendant Leader will:

    + Sets the pace for other workers by leading, guiding, and coordinating routine landscaping and grounds maintenance work assignments necessary for beautification, growth, and maintenance of the ground areas of the University.

    + Ensure proper tools and equipment are brought to each work site.

    + Operates the following equipment, machines, or supplies: racks, weed eaters, trimmers, blowers, field tractors with or without attachments, dump trucks, forklifts, vans, flatbed trucks, riding and push mower, power tiller, edger, brooms, trash buckets, water holes, basic hand tools, and pesticides.

    + Makes minor repairs to small engine equipment and upkeeps with maintenance checks on lawn equipment.

    + Able to sit, stand, walk, climb, squat, kneel, push, pull, bend, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. while performing tasks, and tolerate extreme hot or cold temperatures, fumes, odors, and noise levels.

    + Works with management on any special landscaping projects as required.

    Monday - Thursday: 6:45 AM - 4:15 PM

     

    Friday: 6:45 - 10:45 AM

    This vacancy is being announced as a classified position and is open to all qualified applicants and may be filled as a probationary or promotional appointment . This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position and considered non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and overtime can be mandatory. The selected candidate will be subject to a comprehensive background search to include criminal history and is subject to drug/alcohol testing at new hire and on a random basis. This position may require a clear driving record if required to drive on behalf of the University.
