Part-time Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Instructor

The 32BJ Training Fund is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time Air Conditioning and Refrigeration instructor for classes taught in White Plains.

About us:

SEIU 32BJ is a service union that represents cleaners, maintenance workers, service staff, and security officers in the New York City area and nine other states on the East Coast. Our mission is to educate every member so that they have the tools they need to meet the challenges of a changing industry.

Who we are looking for:

+ Creative, dynamic teachers with good interpersonal skills who enjoy working in diverse linguistic and cultural settings.

+ Teachers looking to empower immigrant workers through citizenship/civics and English language education.

Responsibilities:

+ Plan and implement lesson plans that are aligned to the program curriculum and incorporate the provided educational materials.

+ Teach content related to HVAC/R repair and maintenance through a student-centered teaching approach.

+ Teach hands-on skills specific to HVAC/R repair and maintenance.

+ Maintain and submit records of attendance.

+ Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor.

+ Participate in relevant professional development activities, as available.

Qualifications:

+ Sound knowledge of HVAC/R concepts and theory, including repair, and maintenance of refrigeration equipment

+ Experience with residential and commercial HVAC/R systems

+ 5 years of industry experience working in HVAC/R installation and repair

+ EPA Universal certification

+ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with students from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

+ Ability to use digital platforms to instruct, communicate, and record program data.

COVID-19 Considerations

+ Record of completed COVID-19 vaccine or confirmed medical/religious exemption.

+ Compliance with current COVID-19 protocols of the organization

Classes offered

+ Monday and Wednesday, 2:00pm – 5:00pm, beginning September 2025 – June 2026.

+ Note: this class continues in the Winter and Spring terms. Applicants should plan to commit for the full school year.

+ Classes on additional days, times and locations may be available, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Compensation:

+ $75 per teaching hour

+ $50 per Instructor Development hour
