    **Pay Range:** $29.36 - $42.61 per hour

    Summary:

    The Research Engagement Librarian is a key member of the information, instruction, and reference team. This position supports the Rush community with a focus on providing tools, skills, and information to foster advanced research activities among current and emerging investigators.

     

    Active engagement in outreach to potential collaborators is a key aspect of this position, and the incumbent is expected to work with faculty, researchers, students, and staff to further evidence-based practice across the Rush community’s health sciences research groups. This includes increasing research impact and awareness, ensuring compliance with funder mandates on data management and dissemination of results, coordinating activities, promoting opportunities, and otherwise supporting high-quality, high-impact research.

     

    Other duties include systematic review consultations, student support, and membership on various library and University committees. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Library Public Services.

    Required Job Qualifications:

    • MLS from an ALA-accredited school or equivalent combination of relevant Master's degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of experience supporting research and research-related activities.

    • Knowledge of the goals evidence-based practice and how to implement them.

    • Ability to identify and develop new collaboration opportunities with research departments.

    • Demonstrated experience searching biomedical literature and using NCBI databases and tools.

    • Demonstrated experience providing data management support.

    • Demonstrated knowledge of the research lifecycle.

    • Experience with collaboration tools, statistical software, course management software, and the development of online instructional modules or tutorials.

    • Experience in providing advanced information services in an academic health sciences library, including assisting with scoping and systematic reviews.

    • Experience teaching information literacy skills and providing reference services OR experience providing educational and research technology support.

    • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all levels of library staff and patrons.

    Preferred Job Qualifications:

    • Second Master's degree in health-related field.

    • Experience producing and compiling research impact metrics.

    • Knowledge of bioinformatics software and scientific programming software, such as SPSS or R.

    Physical Demands:

    • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Limited physical effort required; light lifting of less than 20 lbs. Job requires ability to routinely bend, reach above the shelves above the head and at ground level, and navigate stairs and other routine library functions.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develops and implements a robust research support service for the library, ensuring that the needs of the Rush research community are met now, and in the future.

    • Initiates and partners with research personnel on various library-research collaborations, including scoping and systematic reviews, funding compliance, data management, data visualization, research dissemination, and research promotion and impact.

    • Develops and conducts training, group instruction, and workshops, both individually and collaboratively, on digital scholarship / data science research methods, tools, platforms, and best practices.

    • Provides guidance and project support to large-scale research grants and projects utilizing software and for data analysis and visualization, GIS, text mining, text-encoding, digitization and imaging, metadata creation, and social network analysis.

    • Conducts systematic and scoping reviews as needed and provides training and support for reviews and other intensive literature searches for the research, academic, and clinical community.

    • Provides time-sensitive scholarly research articles to members of Rush's research communities.

    • Promotes the creation of researcher profiles documenting skills, grants, publications, and collaborations.

    • Provides training, instruction, and support for PubMed, NCBI resources, and other specialized databases, including electronic research collaboration platforms.

    • Provides data management support, especially as related to data deposits, data citations, ontologies, best practices, and funder compliance.

    • Maintains awareness of emerging and evolving technology, trends, tools, methods, and initiatives in digital scholarship/data science.

    • Assistance in the selection of software and other tools, including those funded through research grant opportunities.

    • Assists researchers with implementing funder mandates and requirements, including providing updates in grant-related governmental policies.

    • Collaborates with other library staff on research impact metrics and scholarly communications issues.

    • Assists with grant application process by providing literature and other relevant information for the grant application.

    • Works with researchers to identify collaborators, partners, and research opportunities.

    • Contributes to the development and evaluation of web-delivered courses and instructional materials.

    • Creates research guides to support student and faculty educational and research activities.

    • Other duties as assigned.
