Job Title: Distribution Engineer II (Houston)Job Description
As a Distribution Engineer II, you will work under the supervision of a technical lead to support the development of design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems. These systems range from 4kV to 138kV and are associated with programmatic work, including overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports. Your role will require compliance with safety and quality standards and involve travel to sites for inspections followed by engineering design work in the office.
Responsibilities
+ Develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems.
+ Ensure compliance with safety, design, and quality standards.
+ Travel to sites for inspections and perform engineering design work in the office.
+ Conduct engineering calculations including structural analysis for wood pole loading and guying calculations.
+ Specify conductor sags and tensions and calculate voltage drop and flicker.
+ Develop permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).
+ Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post-construction reviews.
+ Perform root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles.
Essential Skills
+ BS degree with 2-4 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with less than 2 years of experience.
+ Proficiency in distribution design, power distribution, engineering, and power delivery.
+ Experience with GIS and utility design tools such as GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer.
+ Ability to perform fieldwork and office-based design tasks.
+ Proficiency in engineering calculations and design standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, SOCKET, or similar.
+ Proficiency in CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS.
+ Experience with NESC and design standards.
+ Interest in developing work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects.
Work Environment
The work environment is on-site, requiring both field and office work. Candidates should be comfortable with travel for inspections and design work, as well as working in dense urban environments for complex cable/conduit projects. Training will be provided in customer engineering and construction standards.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00/hr.
