    Salary: $40,000/year minimum

    Report Times: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

    Civil Service Title: Computer Support Assistant

    Minimum Requirements:

    Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

    (A) One (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience providing computer support to users, including diagnosing software and hardware problems and resolving problems, or training, instructing or providing explanation to users in basic hardware and software methods and principles; OR,

     

    (B) Successful completion of nine (9) college semester credit hours in a computer science or information technology field; OR,

     

    (C) Possession of a CompTIA A+, Microsoft Office Specialist, or Google IT Support Professional Certification; OR,

     

    (D) An equivalent combination of education or experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C).

     

    *Applicants qualifying under sections (B) or (C) must submit a copy of their transcript or certificate at time of application.

     

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: If you are appointed, you will be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.

    Desired Qualifications:

    CompTIA A+ certification;

    Experience supporting Google Products (i.e. Google Classroom, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.);

     

    Experience supporting large enterprise applications like ClassLink, Frontline, SafeSchools and Infinite Campus;

     

    Experience working with and imaging computer systems that run different operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Google Chrome OS, and Apple iOS;

     

    Punctual, timely, highly organized, and meticulous when it comes to details - willingly documents resolutions, standard procedures, how-to’s and any work done;

     

    Flexible yet analytical thinker who is an enthusiastic problem solver and willing to be mentored.

    Position Summary/Responsibilities:

    Responds appropriately to routine and emergency needs as they are reported by staff, teachers, parents, students, and community members (i.e. by phone, by email, in person) involving but not limited to:

     

    Answering questions by phone, email and in person related to computer hardware and software in a way that is friendly and easy to understand;

     

    Participated in the helpdesk schedule rotation;

     

    Arriving in a timely manner when an issue requires onsite support and providing that support in a friendly and non-intrusive way (willing to schedule time if necessary);

    Thoroughly investigating and troubleshooting problems reported and deriving a diagnosis with speed and accuracy;

    Providing timely feedback on solutions implemented so that those impacted are kept informed (e.g. adding timely notes to tickets, making calls or on-site visits);

     

    Readily providing training on the use of computer equipment and software applications when the solution requires it;

     

    Performs routine tasks related to computer hardware and software including but not limited to: Imaging and installing new hardware and installing/configuring software;

     

    Applying updates to existing hardware and software;

     

    Installing, repairing and updating systems using existing documentation/procedures or using approved diagnostic assessments;

     

    Running, connecting and disconnecting computer related cables and cords (i.e. Power, USB, HDMI, etc) so that they kept neat and orderly;

     

    Diagnosing, testing and cleaning used computer equipment so that it is ready for redeployment;

     

    All other duties as assigned.
