Program Description:

Community Schools: Community Schools are a strategy to organize resources and share leadership to integrate social services into the fabric of the schools. Community Schools are equipped to better serve the needs of families so that students come to school ready and able to learn. Community Schools offer a family focused holistic approach toward supporting wellness driven by strong, collaborative partnerships among parents, School Building Leaders, teachers and the greater community.

Hunts Point Beacon: Funded by NYCs Department of Youth and Community Development and located in public schools across New York City (City) and operating year-round in non-school hours on weekdays, weekends and in the summer, each Beacon transforms its host school into a resource for the whole community by offering an integrated range of programming tailored to local needs. For all participants, especially youth, Beacons offer a safe place to engage in recreational activities, discover new interests, acquire skills, and find opportunities to contribute to the community, guided and supported by program staff.

Together, these two programs host all sports and enrichment programs at our host site. The Athletic Coordinator will operate as a point person for all Graham-hosted sports & athletics at BAMM.

Job Responsibilities:

+ Collaborates with Campus program directors to develop and oversee established gym and play yard schedule, ensuring adherence to schedule and designated space use.

+ Organizes and supports hosted games across various athletic leagues with the support of Community School and Beacon directors.

+ Collaborate with Program Directors to preside over and/or support team activities, including all scheduled team practices and games.

+ Shares weekly or seasonal sports schedules with coaches, Program Directors, Program assistant (21stCCLC), Administrative assistant (HP Beacon), and school safety.

+ Oversee the daily maintenance and availability of Graham athletic equipment and campus Gym space.

+ Collaborate with family, Campus stakeholders, and community to rally support for campus athletics and offerings.

+ When needed, coach an assigned group of youth, emphasizing skill development, safety, fair play, sportsmanship, and fun.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications:

+ High school diploma or equivalency with one year of experience coaching youth in league-based sports

+ Able to manage administrative and coaching aspects of the position in a timely manner

+ Has a firm grasp of the rules and procedures involved in the competitive play of multiple sports

+ Able to teach with compassion and develop youth participants’ understanding of teamwork, sportsmanship, healthy lifestyles and nutrition.

Salary & Compensation:

+ Base Salary or Hourly Rate: $24.00/Hour

+ FLSAStatus: Non-Exempt
