Phlebotomist – UniversityHealth Center

Amergis HealthcareStaffing is proud to partner with a respected Universitycurrently seeking a Phlebotomist for a part-time position. ThePhlebotomist draws blood from patients or donors for analysis or other medicalpurposes.

Position Details:

+ Location: Dorchester, MA

+ Facility Type: College University

+ Start Date: ASAP

+ Duration: 1-2 months to start (could possibly go longer)

+ Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:30 am – 12 pm (can be slightly flexible on the days/hours)

+ Pay: $25/hr

Essential Duties andResponsibilities:

+ Assembles equipment, such as tourniquets, needles, and disposable containers for sharps, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray, according to requirements for specified tests or procedures

+ Verifies identity of patient or donor

+ Converses with patient or donor and explains procedure

+ Applies tourniquet to arm, locates accessible vein, swabs puncture area with antiseptic, and inserts needle into vein to draw blood into collection tube or bag

+ Knowledgeable in selection of appropriate collection devices, tubes and gauges

+ Withdraws needle, applies treatment to puncture site, and labels and stores blood container for subsequent processing

+ Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

+ Successful completion of Phlebotomist training with subsequent certification (if applicable) as a Phlebotomist

+ Minimum of one year relevant experience preferred

+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

+ Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable

+ Current CPR if applicable

+ TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

+ Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

+ Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

+ Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site

+ Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements

+ Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required

+ Computer proficiency required

+ Must be at least 18 years of age
