Description
Lee County Solid Waste is looking for a reliable and motivated team member to join our compost facility team in Felda, Florida. In this hands-on role, you’ll help with daily operations that support recycling, composting, and environmentally responsible waste management. This is a great opportunity if you enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, and being part of a team that makes a real difference in our community.
This position is located at our 5500 Church Road, Felda, Florida, location.
Duties and Responsibilities
What You’ll Do:
+ Help with daily operations at the compost facility and other solid waste sites
+ Receive, handle, and mix materials such as mulch and biosolids
+ Build and maintain compost windrows and manage material stockpiles
+ Load trucks and hoppers as needed
+ Operate a variety of equipment, including:
+ Front-end loader
+ Skid steer
+ Windrow turner
+ Rock crusher
+ Mowing equipment, hand tools, and other machinery
+ Perform daily process checks and complete required logs
+ Clean, inspect, and perform light maintenance on equipment
+ Carry out general housekeeping and grounds-keeping tasks
+ Perform daily inspections, basic repairs, and preventive maintenance
+ Work overtime or weekends when needed
+ Serve as crew leader when the supervisor is away
+ Work closely with the facility manager and engineer to ensure safety and regulatory compliance
+ Track fuel levels, equipment inspections, materials inventory, and regulatory reports
Education, Experience, Licensing
Education:
+ High school diploma or GED (or equivalent)
Experience:
+ One year of experience in equipment operation, facility or equipment maintenance, or a related field
+ Comfortable operating heavy equipment used in construction or industrial work
+ Familiarity with compost operations and related regulations is helpful, but can be learned
+ Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Licensing:
+ Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered in place of the stated requirements.
Supplemental Information
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (With occasional overtime or weekend work as needed)
The standard work schedule for this position is 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. However, based on the specific job tasks assigned, there may be times when an earlier start time, later end time, or weekend work will be required. Additionally, emergency situations may require working additional hours.
