    Argonne National Laboratory (Lemont, IL)


    The Materials Science Division (MSD) at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking highly motivated applicants for a postdoctoral appointee to join a multidisciplinary team developing next-generation tunable and narrow-bandwidth terahertz (THz) radiation sources and applying them to the study of light-active quantum materials.

     

    This position is supported by the Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) project titled “Development of Tunable and Narrow Bandwidth Terahertz Light Source for Light-Active Quantum Materials.” The successful candidate will lead the design, implementation, and application of ultrafast THz-pump and optical-probe techniques to detect narrow-band THz radiation and explore mode-selective dynamics in quantum and molecular systems.

     

    This work leverages state-of-the-art facilities in Argonne National Laboratory, including the Advanced Photon Source and the Center for Nanoscale Materials, and integrates expertise in ultrafast optics, accelerator physics, and condensed-matter science.

    Position Requirements

    + Ph.D. (completed or soon to be completed prior to the start of the appointment) in Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.

    + Hands-on experience with free-space optical alignment, THz beam delivery, electro-optic sampling, polarization optics and imaging, or time-resolved pump-probe experiments.

    + Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming environments for instrument control and data analysis.

    + Excellent written and oral communication skills.

    + Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

    + Ability to promote the core values of Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork at Argonne National Laboratory.

    The expected hiring range for this position is $70,758.00-$117,925.00.
