Job Overview
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory located in the Mayo building at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-university-of-minnesota-medical-center---east-bank) is looking for a full time, day shift Genomics Support Specialist working Monday-Friday during regular business hours. Schedule subject to change based on departmental needs.
The Genomics Support Specialist supports patients, Genetic counselors, and Genomic lab testing by facilitating insurance prior authorization and appeal requests for genetic testing and by acting as a liaison between patients, their health insurance, and care providers and supporting the laboratory in obtaining data. The Genomics Support Specialist also coordinates test submissions, obtains and prepares necessary information, and participates in process development projects.
Responsibilities
+ The Genomics Support Specialist provides care coordination and support services to patients by facilitating the process of insurance prior authorization and appeal requests for genetic testing including:
+ Verifying health insurance coverage.
+ Phone contact with patients regarding authorization status (approval, denial, etc.).
+ Preparation of letters of necessity.
+ Scheduling peer to peer meetings for the genetic counselors.
+ This role also reviews medical charts for applicable information and participates in longer term projects to streamline and improve approval policies and contract pricing with insurance companies.
+ In coordination with the laboratory, the Genomics Support Specialist manages patient orders and test order submission process for genomic testing, test kit delivery, and billing.
Required Qualifications
+ Associates or higher degree • Diploma must be provided or
+ 24 credits college coursework with emphasis in biology and genetics • Diploma or transcript must be provided
Preferred Qualifications
+ Baccalaureate degree in a biological or health science • Diploma with field of study listed must be provided or
+ Equivalent combination of education and experience • Diploma or transcript must be provided
+ 2 years applicable experience.
+ Knowledge of genetics and genetic concepts
+ Familiarity with navigating insurance company policies and requirements for patient care.
+ Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
+ Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with patients.
+ Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to work well both independently, with little supervision, and in a team setting.
