    Primary Purpose

    PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

    Under limited supervision performs field and office type work. Work of this nature may include any one or more of the following primary duties. Qualified candidates should have experience with the following:

     

    + Demonstrated ability to interpret construction drawings, gas/electric maps and records

    + Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, schedule, manage, and coordinate own daily work activities

    + Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    + Ability to anticipate and resolve problems promptly and effectively

    + Ability and willingness to work rotating shift work, on holidays and weekends, and overtime and be on call as required.

    + Experience locating underground facilities

    + Demonstrated knowledge of DPL’s gas, electric, and fiber facilities

    + Demonstrated knowledge of Delaware Code: Title 12 “Underground Facilities” (DE’s Damage Prevention law)

    Primary Duties

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    + Locates and marks (Temporary or permanent) existing or proposed facility locations and rights of way.

    + Regularly and customarily performs field and office duties including field surveys and layouts to establish locations, condition and depths of utilities.

    + Provides or secures data, inspects, measures and prepares field drawings of utilities as required.

    + Routinely works with computers, software, databases, GPS, GIS, photographic equipment, and related equipment, hand tools, shovel, marking paint etc.

    + Repairs tracer wire, locating tape and other marking or locating systems.

    + Assists Fieldmen, Technicians, Engineers, crews and others

    + Routinely communicates with customers, designers, contractors and excavators.

    + Completes pipeline patrols for indications of leakage, construction activity and other factors affecting safety and operation.

    + Directs and instructs other locators and others as required.

    + Required to work scheduled and emergency overtime including assignment to standby as required.

    + May be routinely required to work from home or other location.

    + Routine work schedule includes a 'floating meal period within a 3 hour window'

    + Performs other related duties of equal or less skill as required

     

    Job Scope

    JOB SCOPE

    + All Locators after completing 12 months in grade will be trained and qualified to be gas emergency responders so that they can: 1. Perform a gas leak investigation 2. Perform an inside and outside investigation. a. Training will include all inside equipment, heaters, water heaters, fireplaces (same training as Utility Energy Serviceperson). b. Evacuate a residence, if necessary c. If at any time the locator needs assistance they shall call, and immediate assistance shall be sent to them.

    + Locators will receive training once per quarter to ensure their qualification is not lost.

    Minimum Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    + High school education or equivalent.

    + Minimum of 1 year of fieldwork experience related to underground construction of utilities or related underground installation or excavation.

    + Ability to read maps, drawings. CAD representations and similar graphic representations.

    + Ability to write legibly and qualified to make field sketches and finished drawings manually or via computer

    + Must be able to pass entry level qualifying test.

    + Must be able to pass progression test when developed

    + Must have or be qualified to obtain promptly the required vehicle operator's license.

    + Employees in this job classification are required to comply fully with the Federal Department of Transportation Gas Pipeline Regulations. Qualifications under this position of the job requirements include substance abuse testing.

    + Walking and driving vehicle over rough terrain.

    + Significant periods of outdoor work and driving.

    + Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds.

    + Hourly rates will be paid in accordance with terms of the candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience or collective bargaining agreement: $38.12/Hr.
