    Overview

     

    Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented Planner/Zoning Specialist to join our Planning Discipline in the Rochester, NY office. Our team of planners, regulatory specialists, urban designers, GIS analysts, and landscape architects deliver experience, expertise, and creative thinking on every project. Planning at any level is a complex undertaking, whether it's for a neighborhood, a town or city, or an entire region. At Colliers Engineering & Design, planning is both comprehensive and multi-disciplinary.

     

    In this role you will have the opportunity to connect with communities to understand their long-term goals and capture potential opportunities that result in enduring solutions. As part of our team, you will help to develop plans that are creative, well-rounded, thoughtful, and realistic. Through our regulatory work, you will directly impact and shape future investment in communities, working with them to identify appropriate tools that support their land use vision and sustainable growth.     Responsibilities

    + Work within a team framework, as well as independently, on a range of planning and regulatory project types, including, but not limited to, comprehensive plans, zoning code amendments, code assessments, form based codes, community revitalization, sustainability, and resiliency efforts, and neighborhood and area master plans.

    + Prepare data and analysis reports, research and draft code language, review existing plans and studies, and develop project narratives, along with other supporting content.

    + Research zoning, land use law precedents, and agency regulations to inform project recommendations and outcomes.

    + Help to plan/prepare for and facilitate public outreach events.

    + Develop and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues, and partnering organizations.

    + Assist project team with the development of proposal and presentation materials.

    + Manage and lead committee, stakeholder, and community meetings to advance project goals.

    Qualifications

    + Minimum of 5 years of experience in land use planning, zoning, development review, municipal operations, comprehensive / master planning, resiliency planning, and/or urban design.

    + Bachelor’s degree or higher in planning, urban design, or public policy; commensurate education in a related field, such as environmental studies, economics, land use law, etc., may also qualify.

    + Excellent writing and verbal communication skills required.

    + Advanced skill with Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint required.

    + Working knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, and/or ArcGIS desired, but not required to be considered.

    + AICP Certification and/or working toward AICP, AICP Candidate desired, but not required to be considered.

     

    Compensation: $67,900 to $88,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
