+ The key function of this role is to ensure the regulatory compliance, validating, and coordination of routes with flight planning and air traffic providers and coordinating weather services for the flight planning system and use by various operational teams.
+ This role is responsible for the oversight of the Operations Specialist and Ops Support teams and their new roles of managing the flight planning database and navigation system updates.
+ This role is also responsible for managing the Operations Support Team who assist in system and technical support for our Operation teams.

+ Manages the navigation, weather, and new technology function within the American Airlines Integrated Operations Center
+ Manages, establishes, and modifies the flight planning system, navigation, Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), route optimization and system interface policy and procedures
+ Plans for and manages flight route optimization including interface with FAA and international agencies
+ Supports, develops, and performs database maintenance of American Airlines mainframe SABRE FOS and other external flight planning systems navigation engines
+ Oversees the monthly Aeronautical Radio, International (ARINC) 424 flight planning system database update process including interface with the data supplier and flight management system vendors
+ Leads a cross departmental group responsible for monitoring airspace usage relative to airspace availability and competitor airspace access
+ Maintains authority over and represents American Airlines position on issues relating to flight planning, navigation, aeronautical information management or international air traffic management (ATM) with industry (International Air Transport Association / Airtransport Association (ATA/ATA), inter government agencies (International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), EUROCONTROL or state agencies (FAA, NavCanada etc.)
+ Oversees and negotiates terms with external companies to which Flight Planning Support provides contract services
+ Maintains ownership of American Airlines EWINS (Enhanced Weather Information System) including outsourced Meteorology support staff/services
+ Works with the FAA Certificate Management Office (CMO) on certification and, quality assurance of weather products, procedures and systems used by American Airlines
+ Manages the American Airlines Flight Planning Support Department responsible for route planning, navigation databases, NOTAM, and aeronautical documentation for American & American Eagle Airlines flight crew
+ Develops cost effective solutions & budget control for flight planning efficiency, weather, navigation systems and new technology used in American Airlines IOC
+ Performs other duties as required
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
+ Meteorology degree or technical degree or equivalent work/experience
+ Minimum 5 years of Dispatch/Ops Center experience
+ Minimum 3-4 years in a leadership role
+ Minimum 1-2 years hands-on experience with FOS and/or PSS
+ 2 years project management experience
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
+ Working knowledge of AA Flight Planning System
+ Familiarity with working in a union environment
+ Experience with the AA Safety Management System (SMS) including ASAP and/or LOSA
+ Thorough familiarity with all aspects of AA operations, policies, and procedures
+ Previous experience with Weather Service Providers, Flight Planning, or Air Traffic Control
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
+ Works well with minimal supervision
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
+ Excellent interpersonal, planning and organizational skills
+ Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Ability to multi-task and shift priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment
+ Ability to effectively interact with all levels within the organization from front-line employees to senior leadership
+ Ability to handle multiple assignments and complete projects on time
+ Knowledge of Meteorology in an Operational environment
+ Ability to work with databases, PowerApps, and analytical tools
