Product Manager (Construction)
Job Description:
Sage is a global leader in accounting, payroll, and people management software. Millions of businesses trust us to pay their people accurately and stay compliant every time.
We are now accelerating our growth in the US construction market, one of the most complex and opportunity-rich sectors in workforce management. Following our acquisition of Criterion HCM, we are expanding its powerful capabilities to help medium-sized contractors run payroll, manage people, and stay compliant with confidence and control.
We are looking for a bold, customer-obsessed Product Manager to shape the next generation of Sage HCM for Construction. You will lead the evolution of a proven platform and help create a category-defining product that makes workforce management effortless for contractors, where job sites are dynamic, rules are complex, and every pay cheque matters.
This is a rare opportunity to build at scale with the backing of a trusted global brand, the momentum of a high-growth acquisition, and the freedom to create products that simplify complexity for one of the world’s most vital industries.
* This is a hybrid position – you will work 3 days a week from our Atlanta office. *
Key Responsibilities:
• Define the vision and roadmap for Sage’s Construction HCM offering, building on Criterion’s foundation to serve the US mid-market with precision and impact.
• Lead discovery and validation with contractors, payroll administrators, and accountants across general and specialist trades to understand their workflows and pain points.
• Design for complexity without friction by bringing together time, job cost, HR, and payroll data into intelligent workflows that manage multiple pay groups, job sites, union rules, and multi-state taxation.
• Partner with legal and compliance experts to maintain certified payroll reporting, prevailing wage, Davis-Bacon, and local or state tax requirements.
• Drive seamless integration across Sage’s Construction suite including ERP, Project Management, Time, and HR as well as external systems such as time-tracking, benefits, and certified payroll portals.
• Prioritise for impact, balancing customer outcomes, commercial opportunity, and technical feasibility to deliver a clear, confident roadmap.
• Collaborate with Product Marketing to position Sage HCM for the Construction market, refine pricing and packaging, and enable go-to-market success.
• Measure what matters by tracking indicators such as active companies, pay-run success, certified payroll accuracy, and time to first pay run.
What you’ll get:
• The opportunity to redefine how the construction industry pays and manages its workforce.
• A collaborative, mission-driven culture that values customer impact over process.
• The backing of a trusted brand with a bold vision for Construction and Mid-Market growth in North America.
Required Skills:
• Proven product management experience in payroll, HCM, or ERP products serving the US market.
• Deep understanding of construction industry operations including job costing, certified payroll, prevailing wage, and union or non-union labour rules.
• Ability to translate complex compliance and workflow challenges into clear user stories and product experiences.
• Strong collaboration skills across Engineering, Design, Compliance, Marketing, and Sales.
• Data-driven and outcome-focused approach, using insight and evidence to prioritise and iterate effectively.
Nice to have:
• Experience with Sage Construction or competitors such as Procore, Viewpoint, or QuickBooks Contractor Payroll.
• Familiarity with AIA billing, project cost accounting, and time-tracking integrations.
• Prior work in B2B SaaS targeting mid-market construction, trades, or field-based industries.
• Exposure to union contract management or certified payroll submission processes (e.g., LCPtracker, eMars).
• Prior experience or a desire to learn AI related technologies.
Plenty of perks:
• Competitive salaries that landed us top 5% of similar sized companies (according to Comparably)
• Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage
• 401(k) retirement match (100% matching up to 4%)
• 32 days paid time off (21 personal days, 10 national holidays, 1 floating holiday)
• 18 weeks paid parental leave for birth, adoption or surrogacy offered 1 year after start date
• 5 days paid yearly to volunteer (through Sage Foundation)
• $5,250 tuition reimbursement per calendar year starting 6 months after hire date
• Sage Wellness Rewards Program ($600 wellness credit and $360 fitness reimbursement annually)
• Library of on-demand career development options and ongoing training offerings
