    Summary The Health Technician-Monitor Technician is aligned under the Nursing Service. The Health Technician Telemetry principle duties involve the monitoring, gathering, and reporting of standard electrocardiographic (EKG) tracings from a centralized monitoring station. The Technician must have completed a rhythm recognition course and be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of cardiac rhythms. Responsibilities Major duties include: Provides telemetry readings under the supervision of nurses or physicians. Provides monitoring to the medical surgical unit and may include palliative unit, Emergency department, step down ICU and ICU. Recognizes changes in patient condition and takes appropriate actions in response to the situation. Interprets requests or instructions for medical or health care personnel. Receives assignments that require application of standard telemetry procedures or that require special procedures that are identified and explained. Provides general clerical/administrative support coordination work for the telemetry unit. Orient's physicians and personnel to the telemetry equipment and unit including the proper procedure for set-up, notification system and review of cardiac monitoring. Assists in training other health care personnel in proper telemetry procedures. Answer and makes telephone inquiries regarding services available and procedures for telemetry to provide accurate information and maintain good public relations. Files individual documents or information in records. Follows designated charting techniques. Documents pertinent information including current telemetry status and subtle changes in the patient's telemetry status. Provides assistance of a technical, specialized, or support nature to health and medical personnel in the diagnosis or treatment of cardiac rhythm or medical conditions. Performs a range of support duties such as taking, recording, and reporting to nursing staff deviations in rhythms. Monitors and records each patient's rhythm and arrhythmia history, prepares equipment as needed. Makes and reports critical observations and other information to the nursing staff. Employee understands and carries out the requests made by the health care professional or seeks assistance for uncommon, unique, or new procedures. Determines technical Factors, sets controls and operates telemetry and associated equipment. Sets up specialized equipment for routine procedures. Sets technical factors, adjusting for patient anomalies. All other duties as assigned by management. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Sunday; Rotating Shifts; Weekends and Holidays (Subject to change based on the needs of the Agency). Position Description Title/PD#: Health Technician-Monitor Technician/PD04738A Physical Requirements: The Health Technician-Monitor Tech is required to use visual accuracy and dexterity, and sitting for the tour of duty. The incumbent may continuously observe up to eight (8) monitors in an eight (8) hour. There is significant eye fatigue and stress as the work is repetitious and critical to the care and survival of multiple patients assigned within the Acute Care Service and on the in-patient telemetry unit. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Basic understanding of medical terminology and the process of recording and transmitting the readings of telemetry equipment. Ability to set controls and operate telemetry and associated equipment. Experience in assistance of a technical, specialized, or support nature to health and medical personnel in the diagnosis of treatment of cardiac rhythm or medical conditions. Ability to perform arrhythmia reviews such as taking, recording, and reporting to nursing staff deviations in rhythms. Provides assistance for safer and proper functioning of telemetry equipment.
