Purpose
Responsible for executing complex projects related to a variety of environmental science and engineering disciplines that include, but are not limited to air quality, water quality, stormwater, site investigation, and regulatory compliance. Work includes assisting production agriculture, local and state agencies, and irrigation and flood control organizations. The position regularly interacts with clients and regulatory agency staff; performs marketing duties including proposal preparation; and prepares project management tools.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
+ Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially on difficult assignments and possible solutions.
+ Work is completed using standard engineering techniques and design principles and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional judgement.
At the Operational and Company Level
+ Work closely with more senior staff members to learn and assist in environmental work.
+ Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.
Do the Work
+ Conduct complex field assessments to collect and compile data, then analyze and compare data to regulatory standards.
+ Conduct field work independently or in a team environment in all types of weather conditions and throughout various terrains.
+ Utilize GPS to collect field data, compile survey information, and produce maps.
+ Compile reports summarizing the field investigations, analyze data, and prepare supporting maps and exhibits for Clients.
+ Perform nesting bird surveys in accordance with regulatory requirements and project-specific protocols, including habitat assessments, identification of active nests, and implementation of avoidance measures.
+ Prepare and direct preparation of designs, specifications, plans, estimates, and reports for projects.
+ Assist in all components related to planning and completing environmental projects.
+ Prepares reports, diagrams, tables, and exhibits using a variety of software.
+ Work closely with senior and mid-level environmental scientists to learn and assist with the team’s work.
+ Effectively participate and contribute to the environmental team.
+ Maintain healthy client relationships and possess solid operational insight for driving projects and executing
+ Regularly contacts clients to gain or present information on project status.
+ Understand client objectives and help them reach a successful outcome.
+ Water Quality:
+ Conduct surface water and groundwater sampling in accordance with Federal, State, and Local monitoring protocols, including grab sampling, composite sampling, and automated data collection.
+ Perform in-situ water quality measurements using field instrumentation (e.g., multiparameter sondes, turbidity meters, DO meters, pH meters) and ensure proper calibration and maintenance of equipment.
+ Collect and analyze stormwater samples for compliance with MS4, NPDES, and construction stormwater permit requirements.
+ Conduct stream health evaluations, including benthic macroinvertebrate sampling, habitat assessments, and hydrologic observations.
+ Prepare water quality assessment reports, data summaries, trend analyses, and recommendations for mitigation, remediation, or restoration.
+ Assist in the development of watershed management plans, TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) support documentation, and pollutant load reduction estimates.
+ Monitor erosion and sediment control measures, evaluate effectiveness, and document field conditions for compliance reporting.
+ Utilize GIS to map monitoring locations, analyze hydrologic features, and compile spatial data for use in environmental assessments.
+ Support preparation and implementation of environmental permitting related to stormwater, water withdrawals, wastewater discharges, and aquatic resource impacts.
+ Conduct inspections of stormwater BMPs (ponds, bioswales, rain gardens, infiltration systems) and prepare condition assessments and maintenance recommendations.

Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Toxicology, Ecology, Biology, or related field required at time of employment.
+ Entry level position, no prior experience required. Experience in a consulting environment is a plus.
+ Specialized training in biological, environmental, science, toxicology, agronomy, agriculture, and/or engineering is preferred.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
+ Proficiency in specialty modeling, GIS, and/or AutoCAD.
+ Must hold a valid state driver’s license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check.
+ Knowledge in the operation and use of field equipment, which includes, but is not limited to, water quality testing equipment (pH, EC, turbidity, etc.) 4x4 trucks, compass, tablet, range finder, etc.

Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $70,000 - $75,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

+ Partially indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

+ Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.
