Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, highly talented Ecologist V. The primary work location is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (PA); however, we will consider excellent candidates in any existing office location. The successful candidate will work within an interdisciplinary team-oriented environment that provides career growth opportunities within AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) East Mid-Atlantic Team. This position will focus on mentoring and/or leading as a Technical Expert involving wetland delineation and stream assessments, investigations for rare, threatened and endangered (T&E) species, specifically botanical investigations, as well as permitting activities associated with Section 404/401 Clean Water Act (CWA) and other applicable permits for construction related activities associated with linear energy infrastructure. The goal of the position will be able to learn AECOM internal process and teams with attaining certification for AECOM Certified Project Manager within one year of starting this position. Additional considerations will be given to individuals that display experience and/or skillsets associated with public utility commissions (PUC) submittals and/or route/siting site assessments. This team primarily works on Project in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
+ Provide knowledge and experience on working with various linear energy related infrastructures, while leveraging your experience with key energy clients to continue and/or grow opportunities within Southwestern, PA.
+ Develop and assist with training/direction of CWA Section 404/401, T&E, wetland delineations, and stream assessments among other ecological support services to the larger team located within the EPP Mid-Atlantic Region.
+ Directly or indirectly support program managers with management of the ecological scope of services including task/financial management, records, invoicing, and other business development activities include proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building events.
+ Serve as an interface with clients and regulatory personnel on complex projects and other business development initiatives.
+ Coordinate with multi-disciplinary groups outside of ecological services (i.e. cultural resources, geotechnical, civil engineering, and/or stormwater) to assist junior and mid-level staff within these disciplines understand the specifics of linear energy utility systems requirements.
+ Lead verify and/or provide other technical quality reviews of deliverables within the ecological scope of services as well as “industry” peer reviews of other discipline deliverables (cultural, geotechnical, civil, and stormwater).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or related field + 8 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and /or education.
+ Experience working with linear energy infrastructure.
+ Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
+ Due to the nature of work, US citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Existing, mature, and tested Client relationships with an ability to generate new work for the Team, Office, and Company.
+ Experience preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders
+ 8+ years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education of ecological services with linear energy infrastructure (i.e., natural gas, electric utilities, and/or renewables industries).
+ Have led teams of professionals in executing wetland delineations, T&E studies, environmental permitting support, and other related studies/assessments/analyses.
+ Demonstrated experience managing projects, interdisciplinary teams, and workload, as well as interface successfully with Clients
+ High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment
+ Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work
+ Self-motivated, driven, and hard working
+ Demonstrated ability to market and win work successfully and effectively
+ Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written (writing sample required)
+ Occasional overnight travel required
+ ORAM, HHEI, QHEI certificate of training or extensive experience/knowledge to train and/or complete technical reviews.
+ PWS or other relevant certification.
+ Proficiency in permit application preparation experience in multiple states in the mid-Atlantic area (i.e., CWA Section 401/404 permits), supporting data collection and review, and preparation of scientific documents including wetland delineation/stream assessment technical reports.
+ The position may require fieldwork limited to either evaluating/training staff, or client facing meetings on Project sites.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $90000 to $115000.
