    Description of Work Unit

     

    As the laboratory school within the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, the CSU Early Childhood Center ( ECC ) serves a three-fold mission of service, teaching, and research.

     

    Our service mission is to provide a high-quality, developmentally appropriate environment for young children in the context of our Reggio Emilia-inspired approach

     

    Our teaching mission is to provide hands-on learning opportunities for CSU students interested in careers working with children and families.

     

    Our research mission is to promote diverse opportunities for research related to children, families, and early childhood education.

    Position Summary

    The Early Childhood Education Support Coordinator ( ESC ) assists the Administrative Team in operating the center in accordance with ECC policies and procedures, Colorado state licensing requirements, and NAEYC accreditation standards. This individual serves as the Director Qualified staff member when the Director and the Assistant Director are out of the building or unavailable.

     

    This individual provides general support to the ECC and demonstrates leadership by creating and maintaining a positive environment for children, families, college students, and ECC staff. The ECE Support Coordinator is responsible for mentoring and coaching all teachers in all areas of their practice including but not limited to behavioral support, environmental support, pedagogical support, and family support.

     

    The ECE Support Coordinator is responsible for filling in for teachers on an as needed basis including subbing for scheduled and unscheduled absences both long and short term.

     

    This individual is responsible for identifying, coordinating, and leading professional development opportunities throughout the year. This includes Professional Development opportunities for CSU students placed at our center.

     

    Ability to carry or lift loads up to 25 lbs.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Master’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies, Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership or related field

    + Large Center Director Qualified by the State of Colorado or ability to obtain this Qualification.

    + Colorado Early Childhood Professional / PDIS level IV or above or ability to obtain this certification.

    + Previous experience in early childhood classrooms.

    + Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make well-reasoned decisions.

    + CPR /First Aid Certified

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Knowledge of and experience with the Reggio Emilia-philosophy of educating young children

    + Colorado Coaching Credential or the ability to obtain this credential.

    + Trainer approval through the Early Childhood Trainer/Training Approval System of Colorado or the ability to obtain this approval.

    + Knowledge of Teaching Strategies Gold or similar assessment tool(s) and ability to train, coach, and support the team with the assessment process.

    + Knowledge of NAEYC accreditation process.

    + Knowledge of Early Childhood Licensing.

    + Experience in implementing inquiry-based curricula, with a focus on observation, reflection, and documentation.

    Essential Duties

    Duty/Responsibility

    Provides support to the ECC staff, including:

    + Supporting Mentor Teachers in the supervision, coordination, and evaluation of interns, practicums, and student teachers.

    + Supporting and implementing processes to support the maintenance and cleaning/sanitizing of materials and all spaces in the center (gym, library, classrooms, outdoor spaces, and more).

    + Supporting and implementing processes of enhancing indoor and outdoor environments consistent with the Reggio-Emilia inspired pedagogical approach, Colorado Licensing Regulations, and NAEYC standards.

    + Assisting teachers with the management of behavior problems and overall classroom management and developing behavioral management plans when necessary.

    + Supporting Mentor and Classroom Teachers in preparing and conducting parent teacher conferences during fall and spring sessions.

    + Supporting and coaching staff members in the implementation and evaluation of Reggio Emilia inspired practice in Early Childhood Education.

    + Supporting staff members in the implementation of developmentally appropriate practices in Early Childhood Education.

    + Coordinates and implements professional development opportunities for all team members.

    + Observes, supports and subs in classrooms on an as needed basis.

    + Overseeing and maintaining Teaching Strategies Gold and supporting team members with this process.

    + Supporting staff compliance with and implementation of ECC policies and procedures.

    Duty/Responsibility

    Provides general support to the ECC , including:

    + Supporting Daily staffing and scheduling of the classrooms, including mentor and classroom teachers, assistant teachers, and CSU student interns, practicums, student teachers, and volunteers.

    + Direct supervision of closing staff and ensuring building is secure at the end of each day.

    + Assisting in and accepting responsibility for daily center duties that might be temporary in the event other personnel are not available, including covering for teachers in the classroom and covering for admin as needed.

    + Collection of Ensuring all CSU Student and Assistant Teacher paperwork and requirements are complete and in order prior to starting at the ECC .

    + Keeping the Administrative team informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety of children.

    + Attending and participating in all staff meetings and center events, as well as parent teacher meetings as requested.

    + Serving on the ECC leadership team that reviews and implements programming and program policies, assesses policy effectiveness, and develops or modifies operational procedures (including. but not limited to, childcare licensing, NAEYC Accreditation, Colorado Shines, daily program events).
