    Electric Shovel Operator – Surface Coal Mining

    Job Summary

    We're hiring an experienced Electric Shovel Operator to join our surface coal mining team. We want someone who knows how to dig clean, load efficiently, and keep production moving safely. If you take pride in running a shovel the right way, staying aware in the pit, and keeping steady cycles, this is the job for you.

    Responsibilities

    + Operate an electric rope shovel to dig overburden, shape the pit, and load haul trucks accurately and efficiently.

    + Maintain consistent loading cycles to support production targets and minimize truck wait times.

    + Keep a clean working face, manage bench heights, and maintain safe digging angles.

    + Coordinate closely with truck drivers, dozer operators, graders, and supervisors to support pit progression.

    + Watch for changing ground conditions, water buildup, undercuts, and hazards around highwalls and spoil piles.

    + Perform thorough pre-shift inspections of the shovel and report any mechanical issues immediately.

    + Keep the working face, truck approach, and loading area organized and clear of hazards.

    + Follow mine plans, pit maps, and daily instructions to dig to proper grades and advance the pit safely.

    + Maintain constant radio communication with dispatch, truck operators, and the pit crew.

    + Follow all MSHA, site safety, and environmental regulations.

    Qualifications

    + Proven experience operating an electric rope shovel in mining or large-scale excavation.

    + Strong understanding of safe shovel operation around trucks, highwalls, active faces, and tight pit areas.

    + Ability to load trucks cleanly with minimal spillage and maintain safe bucket paths.

    + Comfortable managing bench heights, face angles, and shovel positioning.

    + Able to work in all outdoor weather conditions.

    + MSHA certification (or willing to obtain).

    + Reliable, safety-first operator with solid communication and situational awareness.

    Physical Requirements

    + Ability to climb access ladders and safely enter/exit the shovel.

    + Work in dusty, noisy, vibrating, and outdoor mining environments.

    + Lift up to 50 lbs for basic maintenance or inspection tasks.
